I guess that might have been a typo, but I like it! They do have a lot of control over the outcome of our travel.
Could the strip have been a weather strip for around the cockpit window? I don't think a stall strip could be replaced in an hour, could it?

They didn't say what kind of strip. The delay was only about 90 minutes and I wasn't inconvenienced. I was also aware that there was a 45 minute ground delay in Newark based on info from my flight caster app.
I admit to not knowing much about planes. And I did have a somewhat humorous vision of a strip being "borrowed" from another plane. And then one being obtained did that plane, and them ultimately down the line somebody gets left holding the bag and a flight is canceled. IMHO American did its job getting me to ewr safely.
Thanks for your patience.

AA 1028 dfw-PHL delayed due to "right side hydraulics issue". Flight was deemed out if service.

AA 1470 tomorrow (763 LAX-ORD) downgagued to 757?
Last night I checked and was still wait listed for the upgrade despite 7 open F seats. This morning I look, and the seatmap looks like an (old) 757 in both F and Y, with 0 open F seats. The reservation and "choose your seat" menus still say "Boeing 767-300 Passenger" but the schematic is definitely that of an Eisenhower 757. I have a super-long layover in ORD, so if I'm not going to be on the 763 or get the upgrade I'd rather hop on the next flight to ORD (AA 1372, a 737 which leaves 50 minutes later) which right now does have availability in F. I called the EXP desk, and they still show AA 1470 as a 763, but now "full in both cabins" (oversold?) so they couldn't do anything for me. They also said I couldn't do a Confirmed Flight Change to AA 1372 until 12 hours out (i.e. tonight). What do I do? Call back tonight and do a CFC? Go to LAX a little earlier tomorrow morning and see if I can standby on the later flight? AA Flyertalk All-Stars to the rescue...

The aacargo.com site say it will be operated by a 757, so it looks like a one-off downgauge. I don't know the best strategy for getting an F seat on an alternate flight, but it looks like 1470 will be a 757, not a 763, on Jan 20.
Downguages happen. They suck, but they happen.

Right now, part of the issue is it's hovering/below freezing so what we had is not really going away and what is here is becoming ice. It's supposed to snow more tomorrow afternoon/night and I'm sure this will create some travel chaos Monday...when, of course, I'm supposed to fly to JFK and IAD.
