These are going away. Per aa.com: "Dynamic Air Awards will no longer be available for award bookings, beginning April 1, 2014, (12:00 am CT). We regret any inconvenience and will continue to honor all bookings made before April 1, 2014."

I know that Southwest's flash sale tool Ding! has been badly neglected by thge company for years, to the point where FlyerTalkers pay it scant attention. Southwest could kill Ding! and nobody here on FT would care, except for the thought of what could have been.

Hm. I'd forgotten these even existed.

Dynamic flight awards discontinued 01APR14 (yawn)
Proving that complex programs don't work (hear this, DL?), AA is shutting down dynamic flight award redemptions (whose price is based on the cost of buying a ticket) on 01APR14.

Yawn.
[Edited to add: bummer, I had missed the original thread at http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/ameri...il-2014-a.html which now edited with the discontinuation notice. Mods, please accept my apologies for the oversight--my original search had different terms and did not bring up the thread]

Sad to see then gone. I've used them on numerous occasions in the past, mostly when treating our friends, or family. Last time used was this past Jan, my wife and her friend booked 2 tickets ORD-SFO for a trip to Sonoma, 20k rt, 40k for the 2 of them, not bad. I'm surprised that no many took advantage of this. I suggest others should try and use them.

Used them before as an alternative to AAnytime awards. I typically could get my trip for 23k miles or so instead of 25k. Other than that, they were rarely useful. Won't really care to see them go.
Coming from an IT background, I always felt that they .......ized the design by making it the same, poor platform as hotels and car rentals... It always seemed like a pain in the arse to use, and it seemed like they cut corners to implement it. Probably a cheap way with a vendor.
Hopefully this means hotel/car rental awards will be revamped in the future. Or if a vendor agreement is being term'd, then I can see them getting the ax too.

Not once did i book an award this way. Not for lack of trying.
I tried to use the dynamic awards but each time I was able to use less miles on another type of award.

Tickets that were 50,000 miles on AAnytime awards always came back at 49,000 miles on DAA. Not worth it.

I hope this is an indication that AA will not set up a revenue based burn model.

I, too, was able to redeem miles at a fairly attractive rate when MileSAAver awards were not available. In fact, I think I used the Dynamic Air Awards 3 times in the last 1-1.5 years. It was a nice option to have, even if not used often.
