Cathay Award Guide Using Alaska Airlines Miles

Note: Cathay flights cannot be booked using alaskaair.com. Mileage requirements in chart form available on alaskaair.com.

Request your Partner Award reservation on Cathay Pacific by calling Alaska Airlines Reservations at 1-800-252-7522 (TTY: Dial 711 for Relay Services) 5:00 a.m. - Midnight (PT), daily.
Routing Rules:
  • If it's not on the award chart, it's not allowed. For example EUROPE is To/From HKG only.
  • Stopover are only allowed on any CX award for North America awards as destination or origin. For instance: intra-Asia awards do not get a stopover. It must be a North America->Somewhere or Somewhere->North America award to qualify for a stopover.
  • The only awards that do not break at HKG are intra-Asia or North American ones. For instance, Australia-Europe/Middle East/Asia outside of HKG will be two awards (breaking at HKG). The AS award chart can be misleading about this and give you the impression you can fly an award like Australia/Europe-ICN, but the chart for these award types will show "Hong Kong".
  • One stop-over allowed on one way award. You can build open jaw and other advanced routings by booking multiple one way awards. Please note change fee rule below.
  • Allegedly stop-over only in Hong Kong, but some have posted success in other enroute cities such as YVR or SEA.
  • As of 5 June 2018 changes/cancellations made to a booking will incur a $125 fee which is waived for MVPG/MVPG75K. Bookings made prior to 5 June will be allowed one complimentary change or cancellation for up to 60 days prior to date of travel.
  • Awards can be booked 330 days in advance.
  • Cathay and Alaska (or an Alaska flight operated by SkyWest/Horizon on behalf of Alaska) are the only airlines allowed on a Cathay award. No other partner airlines may be used on a single award (e.g. American, JAL, Emirates).

North American Gateway Cities:

Western
Vancouver
San Francisco
Los Angeles
Seattle (Spring 2019)

Eastern (Can not be used if traveling to west coast)
Boston

So one of the flights I was watching went from 5 award seats to 8 on ba.com Called up Alaska and before they could only see 1 seat but now she saw 4. Got the seats but from what I have seen its been -4 what BA shows for departures further out.

How long do they take to reissue ticket? Can it auto cancel if it goes over 24hrs? Even though there is a eticket number from the original date associated with the ticket?

Heads up, looks like CX is blocking award availability again to Alaska. I was just able to book two F itineraries with American that I wasn't able to book with Alaska - they didn't see the space open. Only premium economy was showing.

Does AS employ married segment rules for its own availabilities? For example, I can find xxx-HKG-BOS availability with CX, and also I can see BOS-SEA and SEA-MCO available online. The agent initially can grab all these seats for me but only the xxx-HKG-BOS came back confirmed. I was told the BOS-SEA and SEA-MCO is actually not available but these may be available individually (hence show up on alaskaair.com)... any advice please anyone?

Probably a block placed to stop disallowed routing. XXX-HKG-BOS is as far as you can go. HKG-BOS-SEA is not allowed. Sometimes they book in error. double backtrack HKG-BOS-SEA-MCO has never ever been allowed.

So, you're traveling East Coast-West Coast-East Coast? Wow. Good luck with getting that ticketed, considering that's a ridiculous amount of backtracking to your final destination...

If the miracle happens do not come back to FT to report or talk to any other phone agents on the reservation.

CX Award Help SIN-JFK-LAX

Trying to book SIN-HKG-JFK (Stopover) EWR-PDX-LAX and the agents are pricing this out as two one-ways. Is Asia-JFK-West Cost a permissible routing for CX award?

Read the wiki.

Allegedly stop-over only in Hong Kong, but some have posted success in other enroute cities such as YVR.
Generally speaking, AS isn't allowing you to take a stopover in an Eastern US gateway and then fly to the west coast. If you're going through the East Coast, that's where your trip ends.

For your information, I've had the phone booking fee waived multiple times for CX awards without AS status.

Try calling again.

book your award to ORD, BOS or JFK and buy a one way on another airline to Orlando. I think if you buy the one way on AA, CX will check bags thru across tickets but I can't say for sure.

From what I've heard on the CX board, they're one of the few OW airlines (if not the only) still willing to check bags through on separate reservations within the alliance.

I had MAA-HKG-JFK-SEA-LAX in F ticketed fine. But no stopover just transit. Thankfully on the day of HKG-LAX opened up and I was able to switch it out. The agent didn't even charge me the change fee (maybe she forgot). So I was super excited to not have such a circuitous routing.
