I haven't seen any sign of the promised 1500 miles either. I've already moved most of my spend over to other mileage earning cards because it takes me too long to enter all my transactions into Quicken without downloadable transactions/statements. If this keeps up I may cancel one of my two cards and just reapply once BofA manages to either (a) sell the CDN AS card to another financial company or (b) get's a full set of on-line tools working again.

I'm trying to figure out why they didn't just keep a copy of the existing tools and run it under a new URL for BofA Canada.

Just checked account and the 1500 miles have now been posted.Now B of A has to get serious about a) getting the online banking functions working and b) promoting the card in Canada if they want their Canadian operation to survive.

Lack of online access was a dealbreaker for me. I've switched most of my spending to the SPG AMEX, which allows me 1:1 points transfer to Mileage Plan. I keep the AS Mastercard for places that don't accept AMEX or when purchasing online with AS. I'd recommend setup this until AS/BofA get their house in order.

Seems like a reasonable position to take. It depends on your spending habits though because SPG Amex is going to set you back $120 / yr. Plus the $75 for the Alaska card. As a sidenote I would say that prior to the TD buyout any time I mentioned the Alaska card to people i knew it was a slam dunk for them to apply for it. The lack of online access has really ended that. Anyhow , they must know that because I can't imagine too many people applying for it now. A real shame I'd say.

I cancelled my Canadian card that I had for years because of no online service. I spend 6+ plus months in Mexico and mailed statements are totally useless to me. Have better things to do than keep track of my purchases, plus checking online insured my card hadn't been compromised. Will apply for another card if and when it ever comes back online.

I dropped this card myself because of no online banking. Plus I am having a hard time using the points. Everything I want is always taken. I have 56,000 miles doing nothing for me. I wish I could do something else with them. I have since get an aspire one mastercard where I can book watever I want, wherever I want and just get refunded the money. Seems like a no brainer to me.

Try using your miles on one of Alaska Airlines partners. We used 40,000 miles each to fly to Rome RT on American Airlines after Oct.15th several years ago and plan to spend the same for another flight to Rome next year. Delta is another option but doesn't have the reduced miles option from Oct 15 - March 15th that American does. Planning 330 days out gives you more options than last minute.

Alaska Air MBNA card users

I was so infuriated by the loss of the online banking service that I wrote letters to the board of directors of Alaska Air and the "Customer Care" office in Seattle. I asked them all why such a backwards step was taken, and how would they like to have to enter all the credit card transactions by hand into financial software by hand, like circa 1985?
I received a pleasant phone call and an explanatory letter from "Jenni Clark", a Customer care specialist. On the phone she said that the loss of online service is the result of a legal battle between Alaska Air, B.of A., and TD bank which purchased or is in the process of purchasing the Canadian parts of B.of A./MBNA.

She mentioned that she "couldn't offer any solutions to our problem, and saw no solution in sight". I replied that I was considering moving to Capital One Canada, or another card to get the online service and mileage flights.

If we all wrote to the Alaska Board of Directors, it may push them to solve this stupidity.

The sale of MOST of the MBNA Canada assets to TD is complete. TD didn't buy all of the cards from MBNA, including Alaska Air, Shoppers Drug Mart and some sports affiliated speciality cards. This is all explained on the mbna.ca website.

I don't believe there is truly any legal battle between TD and BofA that is directly related to online access. TD is still handling some parts of the BofA card application and processing business but apparently on-line account access was not covered after the initial transition period - so no more access for the cards that are staying with BofA. It wasn't covered in the sale agreement, so I guess you can call that a legal oversight.

I don't know how high a priority a credit-card issue for a small number of mostly BC and Alberta residents is going to be for the Alaska BoD?

Way back when, before the BofA and MBNA merger was complete, the Alaska Air Canadian Credit Card had online access directly with Bank of America - so, to me, it is strictly a BofA issue, but probably an extremely small part of their business.

RBC took Shoppers Optimum credit card from BofA Canada today. AS card next to go? Fingers crossed.
