It looks like there might be a good one over at AirEuropa at the moment. Before next Christmas you can book ZRH-MAD-NYC and back for EUR214. Example:

https://flug.idealo.de/flugroute/Zue.../#tinyId=SCMLu

That would yield a sprightly €6.29 per XP, a pretty good rate. Might be worth playing about with flugladen.de to see if the fare is similar, and pick up another €10 cashback. I know UX Economy class is not great, but it will be survivable.

There is currently an Alitalia sale on Premium Economy from Germany to South America. Moreover there is a discount code WARM20DE for 20% discount on the ticket price.

So you can get in Premium Economy from Munich to Buenos Aires and back for 772€ - gains 78XP and 22.500 FB miles (not bad for premium economy)
To Sao Paulo it's even cheaper - roundtrip in PE is 692€ - gives 78XP and 19.300 award miles.

I'm not sure how you reach 78XP. Does Premium Economy credit like Business class? Maybe I am still not completely understanding the XP system. But these Alitalia deals are great to know about, thanks very much, despite my slight apprehension that they might start deciding to cancel tickets if they simply think the price is not high enough (RE the recent BCN-:LAX deal).

A similar offer on Air France from Stuttgart to Tblisi is circulating at the moment, which would also yield 78XP (apparently because TBS is just over the 2,000 mile mark at 2,065 miles). This itinerary would be entirely in Business class, presumably on shorthaul planes.

quite simple
- > MUC-FCO books into business class -> 15XP
-> FCO-GRU in premium economy -> 24XP
-> GRU-FCO in premium economy -> 24XP
-> FCO-MUC books into business class -> 15XP

in total - 78XP according to Adam Riese

Feeder flights to PE longhaul flights book into business class on AZ - quite generous in regards to the XP earning scheme award mile-wise AZ is heaven compared to AF/KL where you get around 4000 award miles for a cheapo longhaul business class ticket.

Additionally it does not seem possible to avoid the overnight in Rome on the way back. So the extra outlay for the déplacement plus a hotel or two along the way somewhat waters down the value of this deal. But it's still a great one! Hope we find some more going forward!
I hate to promote this company but Flixbus is a cheap alternative and goes straight to Brussels Airport.

Did you count the 22.500 miles without any status bonus? As a platinum, 45k is tempting.

platinum bonus is 100% on the flown miles .

so MUC-FCO = 453 distance miles

200% Credit for AZ business: 906 miles
100% Platinum Bonus: 453 miles

FCO-EZE = 6919 flown miles

150% Credit for AZ premium economy: 10379 miles
100% Pöatinum Bonus: 6919 miles

oneway is a total of 18657 miles / roundtrip 37314 miles.

Small correction? The MUC-FCO flight is less than the 500 miles mininum distance so the MUC-FCO would earn (500 mi x 2.0) + (500 mi x 1.0) = 1500 Miles.

I am not against Flixbus, but the times to and from Duisburg are in the middle of the night, truly horrible. In the end I booked a train ticket and used a €10 Gutschein from the boxes of Ferrero Duplo and Hanuta chocolate biscuits. In 2nd class with seat reservation using Bahncard25 would have been €36, in 1st class using a Gutschein it came to €39 incl seat reservation. Good price, decent train times, only about 3-4 hours. I will check out Flixbus with connections for the next time.

How long, may I ask, is that voucher code going to be valid for? Do you happen to know? Just while I try to scrape my travel plans together...

This is what I get when I try to use the coupon:
The E-coupon entered is only valid for:
  • Journeys made between 28/01/2019 and 01/07/2019, excluding the period from 12/04/2019 to 05/05/2019
  • Tickets bought between 18/01/2019 and 21/01/2019

However, I take these rules in account and still can't seem to use the coupon. Very interesting to fly from Germany to South-America for just €690!

Indeed it is interesting to fly from Germany to South America for that price, I agree. But the travel period is the worst for me, when my head is totally disappearing up my rear end. I can only really start moving towards the end of June, once my main work of the year is over. So I'll have to wait for the next great Alitalia offer. Or plan a visit to Georgia with AF at some point. I do hope Alitalia continues to survive!!
