I completely agree that a company needs to take care of their best passengers....however, it is not an entitlement, and a courtesy upgrade is just that, a courtesy. You are not entitled to a J seat when you purchased a Y ticket.....if you want to ensure you have a J seat, purchase a J seat.

this is exactly why GAs will knowingly turn down an upgrade to an E/SE wanting J, even if after all is said and done, a J seat is open. a GA does it once, that person feels entitled forever. why pay a higher fare or use a SSWU if they'll just give it to me when I see Y9J9I4?
If I spent that much time on an aircraft, I would be damned to fly in Y.

Like many things in life, it all comes down to managing one's expectations. ;)

BTW, I never stated I work for AC, and the honest truth is I don't, so don't assume things. And I meant in general the attitude of a lot of the FTers is that they are owed something.....nothing personal.

I thought we established a few weeks ago that "confirmed in J" is only confirmed if AC decides not to unconfirm it. This conclusion was the result of "confirmed" upgrades being bumped back down later in favour of a paying J passenger.

The topic of this thread is "Pilots in First Class".

It most certainly is not "let's take a topic [24 hour crew rest in HKG] that has been beaten to death in another thread that devolved into personal attacks and was closed by a moderator, and bring it up again hidden in an unrelated thread hoping to rehash all the same issues."

Any discussion of that has been removed. If anyone thinks it is important, I can attach it back to the end of the closed thread.

And, as mentioned earlier, then start reviewing that thread for any actionable TOS issues.

Thank you,

The president of Eastern Airlines, Frank Lorenzo, had an urgent need to get to Los Angeles from New York. He turned up at the airport and found out that his airline had to bump a full-paid first class passenger to "coach" to allow him to travel.

Mr. Lorenzo - being customer-focussed as he was, had found out the name and seat of the passenger that had involuntarily given up his spot in "F".

After the aircraft was at cruising altitude, he sought out the J-bumped passenger who was way aft in the aircraft. He graciously introduced himself, "Hi, I am Frank Lorenzo the president of Eastern Airlines. I'd like to express my gratitude to you for giving up your seat".

The passenger replied, "Mr. Lorenzo, I am John Akers, CEO of IBM, and neither me nor any of my employees will ever fly Eastern Airlines again."

Akers and Lorenzo definitely share a business relationship... but not in the way you're inferring

Interesting. They probably first met on that fateful Eastern Airlines flight...:D

I heard the story in a sales seminar my company put me through.

It could be worse. Air Canada doesn't actually have first class, whereas United does and that's where their off duty pilots and flight attendants are. Now that enrgages me !!!

It doesn't matter if you work for AC or not. You stated you were a pilot (is that a truth?)
and that if it weren't for you we passengers would not be getting anywhere. I stated without us passengers you the "pilot" would not be going anywhere.

I don't feel I am owed anything such as a J seat when I've only paid Y.

I do feel every passenger should be treated as a valued customer... and all that mumbo jumbo when the pilot says "we know you have a choice in your travel today, thank you for flying with us" Remember we do have a choice!

:) :D

although I will say, that we are PROHIBITED at my certain Asian Carrier from even carrying bags with company ID let alone a uniform. We are IN NO WAY, supposed to let ourselves be id'd as staff in J.

AC staff are entilled as their agreement/ benefits allow. I think the application is what is causing the problem..

I have to think that most frequent flyers work for large corporations. And large corporations give many perks to their employees. To expect Air Canada to not do the same for their employees is ridiculous.

What's outrageous is this sense of entitlement that seems to exist, not just with casual flyers, but obviously to many frequent flyers as well. How can people justify complaining about poor customer service then turn around and say that AC should treat their employees like crap. If I worked for AC, I would expect to fly J. How does this deny customers? We are getting the service we paid for.

you're probably right.

and in some cases those perks include flying J in order to be well rested... that's just crazy to me and i'm ENRAGED !
