Pilots in First Class
As a Super Elite member, this enrages me. I too often see off duty pilots in First Class, while I'm told there are no upgrades, or just aren't upgraded out of courtesy. Too much to ask after flying 120k miles last year? Does anyone know if this is in their Union Contract?

AC is supposed to plan this out in advance so there is as little for pax as possible.

i think you should make a recommendation that all crew fly J in street clothes....would solve all of these issues.
People like their jobs for the perks they get...whether it be a discount off of a product, a free gym membership, whatever....but when they see others enjoying the perks of their jobs they blow a fuse.
I completely agree that a company needs to take care of their best passengers....however, it is not an entitlement, and a courtesy upgrade is just that, a courtesy. You are not entitled to a J seat when you purchased a Y ticket.....if you want to ensure you have a J seat, purchase a J seat.

If it wasn't for us passengers you wouldn't be flying anything except maybe a kite.
I believe we the passengers are the hands that are feeding you

What about in situations where a pilot is bumping a paid J pax?
I know its probably rare, but given AC's level of compensation, I doubt the pax would be very happy.
I presume that most pilot deadheading occurs within Canada, so as a pilot would you rather enrage a high rev pax (paying for J who gets booted for a captain) or go without a big seat for a couple of hours. Keeping in mind that if it weren't for high rev pax you may not have a job.
Non-confirmed upgrades are a different story, which has been put to rest.

i'd like to think it would only happen with very militant captains ( or ACPA executive ) and in last minute deadhead for operational reasons situations. ie. captain has to get on a rapidair to operate a recrewed delayed overseas flight...
most drivers are customer oriented and would be loathe to offend pax...
the three s's for AC pilots drilled into their heads in ground school, in order...
1. safety
2. service
3. schedule

Unless you are paid J, you are not entitled to a J seat....sit in Y with the rest.
