Wow I ashamed to say I work for Air Canada when I see something like this.Pilots for Air Canada only worry about themselves and no one else.Thats why the other unions are not counting on any support from them in the up coming contract negots.Just remember this pilot boy when Milton and company are done with us who do you think is next on the list.Remember your jobs can be contracted out just as fast as the rest of us.

This post sums up AC 's attitude.
If it wasn't for us passengers you wouldn't be flying anything except maybe a kite. I believe we the passengers are the hands that are feeding you  (Curses ! Pre-empted by AnselmAdorne I see... :D) |

As a pilot myself, I disagree with the OP. What's the big deal? If it wasn't for us flying you everywhere, you wouldn't get to fly J anyway, so give us a break.
Don't bite the hand that feeds you. In a previous thread you stated: Posted By pilotboy1985YYC What do you do for a living? Telus Mobility Client Manager. I don't travel for business, only pleasure. |
Thanks that why I told him he back to flying a crop duster

I may have completely missed something somewhere, but I don't believe pilotboy is employed by AC. The subsequent posts taking his attitude as 'illustrative' of AC's are thus a bit mal à propos...

Scenario: What if there is no equipment change and J is full (all paying J pax), but a pilot in YVR must be on the next flight to YYZ to operate a flight out of YYZ, as the originally scheduled pilot cannot do it. Does the captain fly Y, or does a J pax get bumped? |
Enough with the attitude
as an SE myself who did over 75K this year so far I can honestly say most of AC staff is not like that.. I have seen them come onto the plane kick a pilot or co/pilot (not sure) back to Y because of a paid J customer who managed to make his connection.. I have had a dead heading pilot SYD-HNL willing to switch seats with me in J because the AVOD wasn't working.. They usually take my my meal order first and have never had an issue with them running out of my preferred meal..the list goes on and on.. honestly I am sick of the E's and SE's with the whole DYKWIA attitude....I have seen to many E/SE passengers yelling at the GA and FA who are extremely rude.. I honestly feel bad for some of these GA/FA's and check in clerks. there are a few bad apples but thats life.. if you don't like it go fly another airline or a kite :D

As a Super Elite member, this enrages me. I too often see off duty pilots in First Class, while I'm told there are no upgrades, or just aren't upgraded out of courtesy. Too much to ask after flying 120k miles last year? Does anyone know if this is in their Union Contract?
But then, you also think AC can contract out pilots' jobs. i wonder what it is you do and get paid for to have such a narrow grasp on the real world of running unionized companies?! |

How is it that a SE still calls Business Class "First Class"? After flying 120K miles a year I'd figure you'd at least fathom that much out.

AC has to compete! it cant compete with crazy union rules "agreed on" when AC was a monopoly or Government carrier. AC can never last in a WORLD economy unless the Union and Company get together and change some archaic working rules. |

PS, interesting AC has to compete in the "real world" and today front page in the Shanghai newspaper is an article about the airline getting a fine for its pilots not flying to a city because of a "union" dispute.... The govt said they cant hurt the customers.... and now the pilots are to be fired for the Illegal walk out. Oh guess what in the related article pilots are also going to lose the lifetime employment right, and must speak English to fly into PEK.

Don't bite the hand that feeds you. You fly people everywhere now? Congrats on the ATPL, and a job to go with it. That hand that feeds who. I hope your new airline carrier does plenty of drug testing, you must be sucking on quite the crack pipe to surmise that pilots feed the passengers. |

It sounds as if the managment and the staff of the airline mentioned in that article need to smarten up and to catch up with AC and its unions, doesn't it? Neither AC's pilots nor its FAs have ever staged an illegal walk-out or refused to fly to any point in the airline's network. AC staff have never had a lifetime employment right.

Reminds me of a story I heard about airline service in the late 1980's - possibly an urban legend...
The president of Eastern Airlines, Frank Lorenzo, had an urgent need to get to Los Angeles from New York. He turned up at the airport and found out that his airline had to bump a full-paid first class passenger to "coach" to allow him to travel. Mr. Lorenzo - being customer-focussed as he was, had found out the name and seat of the passenger that had involuntarily given up his spot in "F". After the aircraft was at cruising altitude, he sought out the J-bumped passenger who was way aft in the aircraft. He graciously introduced himself, "Hi, I am Frank Lorenzo the president of Eastern Airlines. I'd like to express my gratitude to you for giving up your seat". The passenger replied, "Mr. Lorenzo, I am John Akers, CEO of IBM, and neither me nor any of my employees will ever fly Eastern Airlines again." |
