Pax allegedly kicked off AC flight after refusing to sit in seats with vomit on them

Didn’t see this posted anywhere else despite it being a week old flight and posted on a UK news source. Delete if I missed it somewhere else.

https://www.independent.co.uk/travel...rce=reddit.com

A passenger on an Air Canada flight has accused the airline of kicking two women off the plane after they raised concerns about sitting on seats with vomit on them. [...]

According to her account, two women and a gentleman “were struggling to get seated” on the 26 August Las Vegas to Montreal service, flight AC 1706.

Ms Benson said that there was a “foul smell”, and that it turned out that someone had vomited in that area on the previous flight.

Did not see other sources for this. So skeptical until further information.

I believe fox business is fairly credible and they did follow up with airline: Air Canada told Fox Business that they are reviewing the incident and are taking the matter seriously.
"We are reviewing this serious matter internally and have followed up with the customers directly as our operating procedures were not followed correctly in this instance," Air Canada said in a statement. "This includes apologizing to these customers, as they clearly did not receive the standard of care to which they were entitled, and addressing their concerns."

"We remain in contact with them about this matter," the statement added.

AC did publicly acknowledge to CTV News that something went wrong here:
Our operating procedures were not followed correctly in this instance,” wrote the Air Canada, which added that it has apologized to the customers involved
“They clearly did not receive the standard of care to which they were entitled,” the airline added. “We remain in contact with them about this matter.”

Is CleanCare+ still a thing?

With the onset of COVID-19 the airline has strengthened its cabin grooming standards and will begin using state-of-the-art electrostatic sprayers to ensure a deeper clean with hospital grade disinfectant.

I've watched an FA replace a seat cushion and section of carpet that got hit by some vomit in about 2 minutes flat. Sounds like the FAs in question didn't want to do, pardon the pun, some of the dirtier work in their line of business, and the pax ended up paying the price.

Did the pax get removed because there were no more seats to accomodate a seat change or because they were being 'difficult' in refusing to sit in vomit ?

Unless they were the last no status Basic Economy (G class) pax to check in, and no one has cleared standby, I don't even think that's a relevant question

Not sure what the SOP is. However, if the seats are inoperable, shall AC just deny two passengers from boarding and follow the standard procedure for re-accommodation and compensation?

At least you believe the story now!

Yes, they should have offered recommendation and compensation, the flight attendants and pilot allegedly told them they could either sit in the seats or get off and not be compensated that is the big issue AC is having to address now as well as PR issues.

If the seats really were that disgusting that they could not be adequately cleaned and sanitized then probably....but like how hard can it be to wipe the whole thing down or change the seat cover as previously mentioned. That is likely a lot cheaper than re-accomodating/compensation. I feel like the passengers would have taken photos, be interesting to see if it was like a lot or small amount. Either way though it should be clean before anyone plunks their bottom onto the seat imo.
