FlyerTalk Forums Expert How-Tos and Guides
Last edit by: tcook052
This new annual thread has been carved out of the previous thread in an effort to reduce the number of megathreads on the AC forum. For those interested previous versions are the original 2004 - 2014 thread , 2015 edition, 2016 edition , 2017 edition, 2018 edition, 2019 edition, 2020 edition and 2021 edition.

The original thread started by accident but quickly became a popular place to come and discuss off topic things such as hockey, new movies, or almost anything that wouldn't fit into existing AC forum threads. Air Canada or Aeroplan topics such as flight feedback, in-flight services issues, status or mileage earning/redemption are all topics that should go into existing AC forum threads so others can benefit from this information. Topics about hotels or airlines and/or their loyalty programs, destinations, in-flight travel tech. or anything best discussed elsewhere on FT may be relocated to that forum as this thread isn't meant to import travel topics to this forum that are better discussed on other forums. FT is an amazingly diverse and large community so members are encouraged to seek out all of its resources.

While the conversation is more relaxed as it would be in a lounge that doesn't mean however that the FT rules don't apply here as they definitely do so please refrain from controversial topics such as politics or religion, avoid profanities and treat other lounge patrons with the same respect you expect.

Is demerara sugar the latest casualty of supply chain nonsense? Couldn't find it anywhere in YYC tonight. Amazon has some at $14.99 for a 1 kg bag. The posted price on the empty space at Co-Op was $4.79 for the same size bag, I think.

I just got some at our local grocery store and there did not seem to be a shortage. Got some Golden sugar too.

I got some yesterday, but it was the 4th place I had been.

Funny you mention the golden yellow sugar. There was tons of that everywhere while I was on my demerara hunt, and I was thinking about how I can't ever recall using golden yellow sugar in anything.

Trying to compete with Smith Cocktail Lab? What are we science-ing today?

I've done my vodka blind taste test, and have done the same with some fruit liqueurs. Lately finally started doing some with different rums. Done a few Angostura 7 vs Flor de Caña 12. Last night tried a Hibiscus Rum Punch with both the recommended Jamaican rum (used Appleton 12) as well as another rum from the same category but without the Jamaican funk (El Dorado 12). That Angostura and Appleton aren't the funkiest rums out there, but that's definitively not where my preferences lie, based on the results to date.

I use golden sugar for making my nutmeg syrup for rum punches.

And yes, there is some head to head blind drink tasting going on to help define an upcoming drink menu.

I use golden yellow sugar in tons of things, chocolate chip cookies, peanut butter squares, oatmeal cookies, a really nice sauce for gingerbread. But I think we are talking about difference vices, and mine is probably more harmful.

Oh, I have more than one vice

My various cookie recipes all call for a mix of white and brown sugar though, no golden.

Nothing beats the Flying Beaver for plane porn:

You can keep your MLL or SS.

At least on a rare sunny day. Or about to depart for YXE.

I fly from the South Terminal quite a bit so the Flying Beaver is a favourite watering hole. In fact, it wouldn't be a half bad location for a YVR mini DO.

We had one there in late November or early December 2019.

Two of us had just flown in from HKG

A group of us rolled the dice on the big spend at Eleven Madison Park in NYC with their new all vegan fixed menu. Of all the Michelin Star restaurants I’ve been to over the years, it was by far the best, and we didn’t miss the meat at all.

Absolutely outstanding in every way. 10/10 would do again.

Cow, are camera angles and perspective fooling my brain or did you consume a lot of rum BEFORE buttoning your shirt?
