Is there a problem with trans-tasman availability on Air New Zealand? United and Expert Flyer are showing space on CHC-MEL and CHC-SYD flights, but Aeroplan doesn't see availability (even when calling in).

I've been having huge issues with phantom NZ space.

Aeroplan and EF are both showing all X, which is revenue on NZ, and it can't be booked with points.

However, United has been accurate for me. It simply shows nothing available.

I managed to book copa with huge caveats. Married segment availability only (lim-pty-gru), tons of un bookable itineraries (tested by clicking book, if I can get to the screen to input passenger names, it works, otherwise it gives me the error message that itinerary is no longer available)

Economy only worked, business kept getting the error above

Certain routes that show up on United but not Aeroplan unable to be booked

Anyone have issues with SQ phantom space? I'm looking specifically at MLE-SIN on Feb 26 and 2 seats were available. I called in to book with Aeroplan and only 1/2 pax are confirmed in J, the other pax in Y. However, J space is showing on AP, UA, and EF. HUCA'd 4 different agents they all saw the space, put me on hold to reach ticketing, then returned to say that SQ had responded "the flight is unavailable".

Anyone know if SQ releases last-minute space on this route or if they might be willing to upgrade a pax to J (on a J award ticket) at the gate?

Not sure about the first part of the question, but I can definitely say "no" and "no" for the last sentence. It's not a VERY long flight, though, so it's not the end of the world - I'd actually worry more that they'd swap it for a MI flight that won't reticket on Aeroplan, which happened to me once, heh.

Does anyone see any J class availability on Eva air? Tried LHR-BKK and AMS-BKK and I don't see any J availability for the entire next year.

I booked an AMS-TPE return for march/april last week on aeroplan. Not sure that implies there was availability on AMS-BKK as well. While looking around I also found some availability on CDG-TPE and VIE-TPE in that period, but I believe those were all non-stop flights.

Thank you, sibelius and 24left. It appears somewhat route-specific, as I do see some availability on other routes...

For SK, there seems to be greater availability on their website (but not available on United and Aeroplan) so maybe they limit how they release long-haul J awards to partners.

You need to understand few things
- If an airline thinks they can sell the J class seat to a revenue pax then why would they release I class seat to FFPs? In this case BR on LHR-TPE route. This is one is a no brainer as to why the there are no X/I class seats
- A carrier would make seats available to their members or in other words give preference to their own members versus giving access to the same seat to other FFPs. When you see a seat available on SQ but not on AE or MP this is because SQ releases more seats to KF versus other FFPs
- Also the carriers have different settlement rates with different FFPs hence you sometimes see a seat on AE which you wouldn't on MP and vice versa

noobynoob Oct 1, 2019 4:10 pm

I am not saying the airlines would or should - presumably the same reason they sometimes release more seats later. Are the different settlement rates you referred to publicly available information?

Do you have any examples of this? I've never seen a difference in seats where they were both actually bookable (i.e. I've seen NZ seats on AC but not UA, but they weren't bookable).

I agree. Apart from releasing extra seats to their own FFP, which is common with all programs - I've never seen X/I inventory different across Star.

OneWorld yes, plenty. But not Star.
