This new annual thread has been carved out of the previous thread in an effort to reduce the number of megathreads on the AC forum. For those interested previous versions are the original 2004 - 2014 thread , 2015 edition, 2016 edition and 2017 edition
The original thread started by accident but quickly became a popular place to come and discuss off topic things such as hockey, new movies, or almost anything that wouldn't fit into existing AC forum threads. More Air Canada or Aeroplan topics such as flight feedback, in-flight services issues or mileage earning/redemption are all topics that should go into existing AC forum threads so others can benefit from this information. Topics about hotels or airlines and/or their loyalty programs should be posted elsewhere on FT as should topics better suited to other forums such as Travel Products for questions about luggage or Travel Photography for discussion about cameras.
While the conversation is more relaxed as it would be in a lounge that doesn't mean however that the FT rules don't apply here as they definitely do so please refrain from controversial topics such as politics or religion, avoid profanities and treat other lounge patrons with the same respect you expect.

Just looking for advice from folks here, since I have a lot of respect for people in the FT community.
I'm in a community dinner theatre production next week, and the directors have added a song that I'm not comfortable singing. Most of the song is fine, it is just about hating fruitcake at Christmas. But the end of the chorus bothers me:
What in the world am I gonna do with a fruitcake
It's filled with all those squishy things that I don't like to eat
I wish there were a special place for fruitcake
And the fruitcakes who send fruitcake to me.
The last line contains an LGBT slur used as a general insult. Should I ask for a change? Or am I being overly politically correct here?

I'm guessing the usage here is from the original meaning of "nutty as a fruitcake" meaning someone who is totally mad, bonkers etc. But these older terms get corrupted over time to mean different things, sometimes even into slurs as you observe.
As an audience member, for me it's all about context. But if you are concerned that there are those whose context might result in offense to this term, then by all means point it out to the director. Having had that role in the past, they are responsible for the entire production which includes listening to any concerns the talent or crew members may raise.

btw, "the talent" is a rather generous term in my case.
