From post #49 in this thread, here's one potential way to (re)inflate an AC seat:
  • Go the home screen "Your Seat". (find this on the seat side panel; not the main video screen)
    • Hold the top left hand corner "Air Canada" (with AC logo) for 3 seconds. Updated (Apr 9 18): may need to hold for as long as 45 seconds for key pad to appear
      • Dial pad shows up - hit 3-2-1.
        • Press "Reset Lumbar Support"
Note that this method has not met 100% success so YMMV.
A better method is for a crew member to use the reset switch under the seat, on the aisle side.

Compensation offers (green/white sheet completed)
40K AE- Apr 18 (50% back of the J class one way redemption)
2018 Jun - $500 coupon
2018 Sep $1,000 eCoupon or 40K AP (P fare TPAC)
2018 Sep $500 eCoupon (P fare TPAC) (no change on protest- update - 6 months later the $150 was increased to $500 - admitted they had made an error)

Compensation offers (no green/white sheet completed)
100K - May 5 (C$150 eCoupon; was moved to a functioning seat after meal service)
2017 Sept - 8,000 AE miles - reported via complaint web page after realizing it was a faulty seat, not standard discomfort; Asked for return of eUps but they declined.
2017 Nov & 2018 Feb - $500 coupons both times (second time on protest that $500 had been offered the previous time)
2018 Sep. $250 coupon (on a paid J TATL).
2018 Nov - $500 eCoupon (J TATL)

Standard eCoupon compensation offers (no haggling; following a recurring pattern)
~10+ hours: $1000
Long TPAC (TPE-YVR)

~6 to ~10 hours: $500
Short TPAC (NRT-YVR)
TATL
South America: YYZ-GRU

less than ~6 hours: 300

Have a Service Director (SD) That Is Giving You the Case of the Shrugs? Like the real life version of this ASCII emoji -> ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ?

No success with the SD and/or crew rectifying your deflated seat and you can't be/aren't accommodated to another J seat? If you asked for a compensation form and the SD says they have no idea what you are talking about, you can use the below picture of the stub portion to help freshen their memory (better than nothing)...

Please note that for the longest time, the "Green Compensation Form" version was used, and there have been recent reports of the "White Compensation Form" replacing the Green version. Reports here have indicated that the two forms are virtually identical except for the colour.
There is now an even newer White Form which explicitly lists "deflated seat" and "deflated seat and fixed", among many other items.

Here is a snapshot of the NEWEST full form (as of August 2019), courtesy of lallied

Luckily I was able to move to another seat. It had been flagged inoperable on departure (due to being deflated on the previous flight!) but they learned inflight that maintenance had fixed the seat and not unflagged it correctly. Thank goodness, as I know some upgrades were declined during boarding.

I’m about to fly HND-YYZ. Fingers crossed.... sure sounds like there are a lot of issues. I can imagine a lot go unreported.
any tips on where this manual switch is?

I must be one of the luckiest out there. I don't think I've encountered any of the 100+ long haul J flight in the new executive pod where the seat deflated on me (either I've always sat in functioning seats or I'm just light enough in weight to not notice). Years of training by sleeping on airport benches probably helps as well. I'll pay more attention to this next time I step on a long haul J flight.

AC finally get the entertainment system to work, however to do that, they gave us a new seat that's tough to roll over when you are in LAYFLAT mode, and now the deflated bladder has become widespread. My 787 flight was a "flat tire seat" and the in charge didn't know how to fix/reset it.

As CC mentions this is definitely widespread, and at first I thought it was limited to just the initial batch of 788s but you might get lucky on any aircraft!

This was posted in another thread, but the first thing to do is try to reset the seat:
  • Go the home screen "Your Seat".
  • Hold the top left hand corner "Air Canada" (with AC logo) for 3 seconds.
  • Dial pad shows up - hit 3-2-1.

Not all SDs will know how to do this.

Also, if the seat doesn't reset properly don't write in, ask for a comp. form on the flight. I suspect AC is in contact with the manufacturer on this as the compensation amounts are not trivial for them.

I get confused with the names, but assuming the executive pod is the 787 seat, I've only flown it once, but didn't have that problem. Flew a very similar seat on Avianca and didn't have it either.

I've had quite a few 777 and 787 flights where the FA's have been doing a seat reset - it's somewhere down on the side on the aisle, below the seat. Someone should get a picture the next time they see it.

Also, are the manuals for the seats somewhere online, which would help verify this is what they are doing, and the nature of the problem?

Perhaps the reset trick should be in a wiki at the top of the thread.

The 'reset' trick most of the time is like re inflating an air mattress. You still have not resolved the leak. Of course, when you board, the mattress feels firm as power was just turned on and the sensors made it inflate...but it then deflates. Compensation on a long haul to fight for are $1000 towards a future flight or 30% off. That's the best I get. These NEVER get resolved at outposts. They are logged on the way in and a poor sucker gets that mattress back to home base without being made aware or offered another seat, if available. THat's my main issue. I'm on 100% J booked routes: there are no other seats to transfer to.

It’s getting worse as seats age. This year one of us has had a dead seat on every flight. The staff do the eye roll and fiddle but if does go up it soon goes down. It’s like sitting on an uneven metal seat with no cushion. Haneda a particular joy. Presumably they all need replacing with a new product. Soon I hope

I am on AC 42 tonight, and as I am a big guy I would really like to have padding. Thanks for the reset info. Also in the past have "found" a second cover and used it as a mattress pad to get some extra cushion while sleeping.

Don't blame the seat, blame the money-grubbing sadist who is responsible for it. Calin Rovinescu is the worst thing to ever happen to Air Canada’s international business class.

I've also experienced a rock hard seat (LHR-YVR). At the time I thought it was overinflated, and wouldn't deflate at all. Emailed in a complaint after the flight, received $500 in compensation.
