I'm confused ...... I've read 100 pricing posts around here detailing AC's out-of-touch pricing and terrible value for the paying passenger.
Here, they've matched 1-stop options and now they're unable to command a premium for their offering?

Would be great for the pricing/valuation arbiters to get one story and stick to it

I have been reading over and over here that non-stops command premiums, so what does it say about that nonstop option when it cannot do that?

Let the prices speak for themselves
Y:
KLM $845
AC $850
UA $915
EK $1147

J:
KLM $5352
AC $5511
UA $5576
EK $7161

Now, we ve been told that AC will be able to compete (heck, command a premium) based on their superb 4* service, and loyalty, and basically their awesomeness - and here they are reducing themselves to competing based on price?

Says nothing more or less than what some of us have been saying all along ........ Passengers set airfares

Think of that the next time you read AC prices are out of touch. Or, no one pays AC's absurd price of $XXXX to fly ABC - DEF

Air Canada is not lowering YYZDXB prices for charity. They're obviously not seeing the CAN>DXB demand they expected at the previous price point. Not going to make any wild assumptions this early but it can't be a good sign when you have to price a nonstop offering the same as connecting itins

I'm surprised the price dropped so dramaticly in one shot. With the start of the route still being many months away I would have expected it to be more progressive...

Amazing how demand can drive price eh And not some notion of 4* awesomeness.

Here we have one guy sarcastically referring to my quote as if it's nonsense.
The next guy, not realizing the first guy was being sarcastic, agrees entirely.

yes, I guess sarcasm is lost on some when its typed...
I'll go hang my head in shame now

now, a question to all the experts out there - when can we see a true price war? Would love to see AC get arrogant and try to out-price EK like they did with VX, and see some <$500 fares to DXB.

I say Air Canada should just cancel / drop the DXB route and do a direct (or with tech stop) to JNB (Johannesburg). No politics and no direct flight competition.

I think people on this forum travels to JNB more than DXB.

JNB is both a business route and a leisure route (cape town, safari, etc).

I'm already flying there twice this year and have family members flying YYZ-JNB. I've also at least 10 of my friends (Canadians working in Toronto) who have travelled their in the last year - for either work or pleasure.

There are rumblings DL are less than pleased with their returns on ATLDXB and might take their 2.5 777LRs elsewhere. Would have thought DL would be the one to go toe-to-toe w/ EK.
Can't imagine AC will fight long while burning through cash if DXB doesn't perform as hoped

Try pricing tickets that include the YVR-HND leg on NH directly, vs. the AC codeshare.

Explain to me why they would codeshare if the seemingly don't want to sell this.

It's worth noting that the EK prices can be lower than this, but also that for essentially the same fare you can continue on to HKG or SYD...
