However, I do not share the forum resident epicurean's excitement over the carrot walnut cake concoction. The food porn has obviously pushed someone over the edge of self indulgent hedonistic cake delight as this thing, as referenced on the cakes on a plane thread, is just too busy. I'd still eat it if hungry, but just too darn busy for my preferences.

"self indulgent hedonistic cake delight"
I was excited that there was a new cake. Although admittedly, your writing style and choice of words are immensely entertaining.
If someone at AC really wants me to be excited about Cake on a Plane, bring back that awesome carrot cake decadence from AC 3 flights from 2015.
But here is some interesting info from Science World British Columbia
Why is cheddar orange?

Annato is not scary. It's a natural product BTW. Has been used in mimolette cheese since Colbert (the real one, finance minister -farmer general- of Louis XIV). Marketing ploy, differentiate from Dutch cheese that their Trump-like policies intended to displace.
In cheddar it's a fairly recent enhancement.
Still, sounds much better for body painting...

Indeed, the wooden box has been enhanced away a long time ago, and the quality of mid-flight snacks has generally decreased.
Here is a picture of it on AC007 from mid-2012, for "old time" sake:
Attachment 42653
There were 3 pieces but they were quite substantial.

What can I expect on my 2120 to MUC?
Is that one of the flights where I don't get a real international J meal service, because it's "late"?
It's 1820 my time

Express Supper Service applies to departures 2130 and beyond. The initial type-trial included only 876 (FRA) and 858 (LHR) and given it's positive response, has since been added to: 042 (DEL), 090 (GRU), 092 (SCL/EZE), 056 (DXB). 046 (BOM) will revert to full meal offering on November 1st as it transitions to an earlier departure.

AC008 HKG-YVR November 2017
Great service tonight and a hard-working crew but overall disappointing, sub-standard catering ex-HKG.
The Parma ham, smoked duck breast, red wine sauce, tarragon mayonnaise, melon, asparagus, mixed greens was good and nicely plated but could have used a bit more dressing and seasoning:
This was the Halibut fillet, caper lemon sauce, mashed sweet potato, mushrooms, cherry tomato. I don't know what I was expecting (or thinking) when I ordered this dish, but this was by far the biggest letdown in terms of onboard J meals I've had in a while.
The presentation was awful, the taste bland and the portion small. Not great.
On the other hand, the Chocolate cake praline was delicious and a nice change from the never-ending Hawksworth chocolate thingy. Even better with a little Grand Marnier in a warmed-up glass ^
I ordered the Apple celery potato salad with yogourt, romaine lettuce, red chicory, mixed peppers, cherry tomato mid-flight a it was refreshing.
Pre-landing brunch. The croissant was warm and fluffy, nothing like we get on the TATL overnights ex-Canada. So good that I ordered seconds.
The Omelette with hash brown, veal chipolata sausage and grilled tomato was tasty and I was glad to see a different omette than the classic one that has been served onboard for years:
And, the menu:

I am disappointed to read about the change to express service on late departures. I will be flying YYZ - DEL (AC 42) next week which has a 21:25 departure time and I saw listed as one of the flights that has had full dinner service replaced by the express service only.
I have tried to follow the thread on what meal service to expect but if someone could clarify I would appreciate it. As I will be working all day and will have to leave for the airport at about 7, I was looking forward to a long leisurely dinner to help kill some of the 13 + hours

Bolding and highlights are mine. Hope this helps
Some background info here. After extensive surveys, audits and type-trials, extra-late departures have transitioned to an Express Late Supper based on Customer feedback. Particularly on YVR-SYD, a late midnight departure, the overwhelming preference was for a quick all-inclusive dinner and sleep. Pre-change, it was not uncommon on late departures to have in excess of 50% + waste, nor did it make sense to be offering the full meal deal until 0200 as Customers were nodding off.
Breakfast orders are not generally taken for the second meal service on ULH flights, as again, Customers are in sleep mode, however FF Status is observed when offering the entrees.

As always, you're welcome
1) I can't say with certainty as we (YYZ) don't operate OZ routes, but guessing that the concept is the same with 4 choices/cheese + dessert/fruit/coffee-tea & liqueur trolley.
2) Yes, however while I've had a few requests on 090 (GRU) 876 (FRA) and 056 (DXB), I have yet to have a Customer rise and exercise the option. Most opt for mid-flight snacks or wait for breakfast, and absolutely any fresh components from the first meal service (salad, cheese, dessert) are readily available. Many of my colleagues working the J-Galley will actually remove a percentage of non-required dinner casseroles in the event that somebody should rise and want an entree.

I did read that which has lead in part to my confusion:
I have double checked the itinerary and it shows, in fact a 21:15 departure. Prior to the time change I believe the flight departed at 22:15. In fact when I originally booked the flight my itinerary said 22:15 but then I received a change notice from AC changing the departure time by an hour , so I wonder if the service reverts to the full service with the time change does anyone know?
If it does not, and we have the Express Dinner, what I understand this to mean is it is similar to NA / Caribbean J where once does get a choice of entrees, but it is served all at once on a single tray. Is this correct?
Thank you.
