Flexible meal option is offered.

There was also a snack menu with four choices. The aforementioned yogurt, hummus with veggies, a panini kind of thing and cornflakes.
Based on the meal pictures from 24left and other posters, apparently the yogurt has been enhanced from breakfast, at least on Asia flights.

Which direction?

ex-TYO and ex-Asia the catering is often very different than ex-NA for TPACs.

Yogurt is different, packets of things are different, even the noodles are different companies. etc. etc. etc.

Er, the yogurt ex-NRT is my favourite over the past few years and I always look forward to it.

I recall a few people commenting in the North American meals' thread that the breakfast yogurt had been switched a while back and it now has less nutritional value (what with sugar and flavours etc). I don't like the brand AC uses so I don't eat it. Don't get us started on the oatmeal.

The second light meal on AC 15 went from light meal eg. Chicken fried rice to awful breakfast (think North American J) and then back to light meal. On AC3, the light meal has been downgraded. Recent flights have the meals not heated to the point where they are hot and one one flight where I saw the skin on the chicken bits, I no longer bother (photo upthread).

AC also took away the little box of Lindor truffles that used to come on the tray with the light meal service on AC 3.

I fly TATL much more often than TPAC, so my apologies for the question, but have the mid-flight snacks gone downhill?

Maybe my mind is playing tricks on me, but I seem to remember the "dim sum" consisting of 6-8 pieces served in a "wooden box".

During my recent flight it consisted of a tiny plate with three small, rather sad looking dim sum.

The chicken sandwich was also rather unremarkable.

Not the end of the world; I just ordered some more along with some noodle soup, but I figured I'd consult the collective FT memory.

I've never seen dim sum in a wooden box on the last 3 years of AC TPACs.
The chicken sandwich is ugh.
AC took away the fresh and tasty mini-Bocconcini and tomato snack and instead there is the thing with grains. Also ugh.
And of course, in early 2016, they change the noodle bowl supplier (just like they changed the yogurt and oatmeal on transcon)

Indeed, the wooden box has been enhanced away a long time ago, and the quality of mid-flight snacks has generally decreased.

Here is a picture of it on AC007 from mid-2012, for "old time" sake:

There were 3 pieces but they were quite substantial.

Thanks for the responses!

Funny how I remember the AC snack menu from who knows when, but have no idea what I had for breakfast yesterday.

The current dim sum certainly is rather unimpressive.

If I had to guess, I'd say the current noodle soup is a healthier (and less flavourful) variety whereas the former noodle soup was the typical (very unhealthy) 7-11 style noodle soup deep-fried thin noodles.

-----

On the bright side, I thought the current Hawksworth sablefish creation and the smoked salmon % potatoes appetizer were both excellent. ^

First photo is the former Noodle Cup from Dec 2015.

Second photo is the one that appeared in 2016.

They are both just giant bowls of sodium. Crew told me the brand was switched because the prepared contents of the previous one would overfill the tiny blue bowl. The new package has less in terms of contents. Whatev.

I just watched a couple of AC trip report videos from 2012 and back. The downgrade in both quality and quantity is significant. If I recall correctly there used to be around 7 to 8 choices of mid flight snack for J back then, noodle, dim sum, hot sandwich, chicken skewer, salad, yogurt, cereal, cheese plate, etc.

This post brought back a lot of memories. I would have almost forgotten about these dim sum trays if it were not for this post!

I miss them very much!

AC Late Night Express Dinner

My friend found this leftover menu on his seat on AC 12 on Thursday.
I can't really decipher the code, but it might be either YYZ-South America or YVR to Australia. Anyway, since we are on that topic, this menu may be good to look at. It seems like salad, main course, and cheese are served at once, and dessert will be served separately.

Thank you for your information. Fantastic too. I am going to be on this route shortly and had been looking all over for this info. My last Hong Kong flight served me what I believe was a 20g+ of fat per type serving instant cup of noodles, so I am pleased to see a decent soup option. Excited even.

However, I do not share the forum resident epicurean's excitement over the carrot walnut cake concoction. The food porn has obviously pushed someone over the edge of self indulgent hedonistic cake delight as this thing, as referenced on the cakes on a plane thread, is just too busy. I'd still eat it if hungry, but just too darn busy for my preferences.

BTW, is it just me, but does the AC cheddar cheese always look like someone was too exuberant with the food colouring? It's the only cheese I eat on board, which no doubt will cause snorting and chortling at my preferences, but it's got that Tang hue to it. (For those who are too young to know what Tang was; It was an instant orange flavoured drink with Vitamin C that was sold as an OJ substitute back in the 60's & 70's with the claim to fame that it was developed for the space program).
