I'm astonished they left PE on these 5 with the same seats
and did the rest of 777 fleet with different PE seats .
You look on AC website about "premium Economy"
they only show new seats and a curtained partition that
these aircraft don't have.... AC need to have a more
consistent product with value for money or People vote
with there feet and go elsewhere....

Maybe so , but AC shouldn't go down that route they're above that !!
Consistency and standardisation is everything , look at the empty seats already that say's something....

Fin 744
Seat 5A
Completely deflated and a rather uncomfortable 12 hours
Lumbar inflating buttons did not work
Notified crew
Since you really can't be sure what fin you'll get, just a heads-up

In my post #1311, I showed the photo I took recently on Fin 743 of the PE seats.
Well, here is what the PE seat looks like on Fin 744.
Does anyone know why AC did not refurb the PE seats on these older HDs to be consistent across the fleet?

Yep, that's what I saw. New upholstery, old seat frames, old entertainment system.

A quick Google finds that a business class seat is $30,000-$80,000. I am guessing the low end is the cost for a domestic business seat. So if similar to a PY seat on the 777, which has 24 PY seats.
So $30,000 x 24 seats = $720,000.
So even if the seats are half way through their life, the value in the old seats is still $360,000
I'd rather they spend the $360,000 on more "deep cleans" of their filthy planes.

I assume there is still a lot of life in those seats and at the next D check they will be replaced.

Here's the thing with the various configurations/stages of refurb of the older 777s (450 pax edition)...no one cares if anyone is comfortable. I'll assume the reason fin 743 still has the old seats is that they were still in a form not needing immediate "renovation". OTOH, fin 744 got new fabric and head rest (or maybe that's just a new cover. I did not conduct a deeper inspection when I took the photos).
Fins 748 and 749, the new builds, have the new seats.
FTers are a different breed and many of us know fin numbers and cabin confirmations that get interesting reactions out of cabin crew.
The average flier does not. They look at the PE cabin, they consider the price and the distance and it's either yes or no.
AC did its own calculations and the mix-and-match PE on the HD is the result.

Once again I say "Consistency and standardisation is everything" re #1322
You can't advertise a product on your web site and give something inferior...
People catch on to this, you end up with empty seats....... doesn't take long but
takes years to get that trust back...

Even if AC were able to offer the identical hard product. the soft product doesn't offer "consistency and standardisation" despite many years of trying.

Airlines do this all the time - when a fleet is being updated you end up with a mixed fleet for several years. The J seat is supposed to be the "same" in a 777 as a 787, but there is significantly more space in the 787 version. AC is running old pods on 763's and 330's. NH has different styles of J in their fleet as does SQ.

nothing wrong with J or Y at least they are all the same....

the majority of my flying is tpac in PY, but I'd rather take cleaner planes than worry about the seats on only 5 aircraft.
