The question you need to ask is "will this quarter be better or worse then expected".

Thing is.......it is a 50/50 guess for most of us. Yes you can put in research, look at historical trends, see what the greater economy is doing, watch what other airlines are doing, are they hiring or firing, see if there is any big events (ie Olympics, World Cups) that are on a heavily served route.............or you can pay someone to watch. To my knowledge nobody around here puts in the kind of research you would need to do to come up with an opinion about the trend of the stock price.

I mean, one guy even thought AC bought Jet Fuel for its plane's using a 'buy call' option strategy on West Texas Intermediate, which is a type of crude oil that is different from jet fuel.

.......one analyst did come out today and say AC is undervalued. He/she sounds like a full time analyst who follows stocks and puts a price point on their opinion.

Mid-term a shorting strategy can help long term investors. If they over short or the company has good news or good numbers it can cause a 'short squeeze' and really drive up the price as the shorties buy to cover.

I held. Should have sold yesterday! It's a tax sheltered small investment (TFSA), hence my lack of strategy beforehand. Amatuer hour over here in YYJ.

if anyone is long and getting nervous you can always sell some covered calls and get the option premium. I'm guessing implied Vol is high at the moment due to last week's activity.
