So with the 20 euro booking fee, it seems like A3 got it right.

You're being hit with the UK 'departure tax', which is doubled in premium cabins and is punitive... sadly. Many people in the UK book long-haul from AMS, CDG or elsewhere close, and use separate positioning flights/Eurostar to avoid the APD.

So, yes, it is incredibly expensive...

As others have said - don't depart from the UK, because you'll instantly get hit with high APD and airport charges compared to the rest of Europe. It is what it is...

I have just checked on Matrix and the taxes should be 330.96GPB (approx 463 Euros) :
United Kingdom Air Passengers Duty (GB)
£142.00
United Kingdom Passenger Service Charge (UB)
£42.06
TG YQ surcharge (YQ)
£146.90

It is incredibly expensive !!! What are your thoughts ?

Mat
Just realised that there is F Class available on the same flight could I upgrade with mileage difference or do I have to cancel and make another booking ?

Also how many miles would cost with Aegean a North America to Asia in C or F ?

I'd call M&B - they may well be able to do this with just a change fee, taking the extra miles (there's probably no tax increase - the APD will be the same for F, so it's just a case if TG's YQ changes for the higher cabin with less seats to spread it around).

By incredibly expensive you mean the 19 Euro difference? Well, my currency converter translates 330.96 GBP to 465.067 Euros; add a potential conversion fee you get to the price quoted. Alternatively, if you booked by phone, you have to calculate an additional 20 Euro booking fee, so the "taxes" quoted would be a bargain

But, generally speaking, I also find the price high but this is so throughout the industry (except for USA-based airlines) and has been like that for quite some time (many, many years). The idea of having to pay "fuel surcharges" for a free ticket is completely illogical, as they're not asking anybody to pay a "salary surcharge tax" in the cases when they pay increases to their personnel, and neither do they reduce the YQ charged when fuel gets cheaper (e.g. over the last several months).

Not that it will help you in any sense, but you'll find tens of threads in almost every airline forum in FT dealing with this matter.

No the 19 euros difference is fine.
I do not blame A3 for the high taxes but TG and LHR !!!

I also do not find normal to pay for the fuel !!!!

There are no Aegean flights from NA to Asia but if there were, an award would cost 15x the miles flown.

But perhaps you mean using A3 miles to redeem on a *A partner? It is 150k / 200k. Please study here to learn about the redemption rates:

I just called A3 so can can't upgrade the ticket I have to cancel the previous C class award and make a new booking in F class.

Thats correct. Award Tickets can generally not be upgraded. I only know AAdvantage doing that, with all other programs you need to cancel your ticket (fee) and issue a new one in the higher COS.

Is it possible to change the origin while keeping one of the flights (i.e. Turn YYC-LHR into YEG-YYC-LHR) for 20€, or do you have to cancel and rebook for 40?

When I asked around a year ago the agent I spoke to said it was not possible to change, i.e., you would have to cancel and rebook. I did not try it though.

If you do decide to do this, I would suggest making sure that availability still exists for the YYC-LHR leg before you cancel and rebook - it is not guaranteed that your canceled first booking goes back into award inventory. @:-)

When I asked about canceling awards, I was told that the miles would redeposit "immediately", i.e., you could cancel your C award and book the F award on the same call (with other FFPs this is not necessarily the case; it might take several days for the miles to get redeposited). If you try to cancel and rebook, I would suggest making sure this is the case, and/or ask them to hold the F seat (not sure if they can/will do this though) so that you don't end up with no seat after you cancel the C award.
