Stopovers are not allowed with A3 awards and only one connection is possible... You have to book it as following:

- MAN-xxx-LAX
- LAX-xxx-PIT
- PIT-xxx-MAN

You would be charged three awards (EU-US, US-US, US-EU).

Thank you.

I'll just buy the LAX-PIT ticket outright since they aren't expensive.

Was able to book BKK-SIN-HKG on SQ J with A3 just recently, so backtracking is definitely possible (might depend on the agent though).

Yea, I was able to book TPE-SIN-HKG in SQ J in 2015 issued by SQ, though the flight TPE-SIN was operated bt BR.

Your route is not backtracking, since the distance between BKK-HKG is greater than SIN-HKG, and it is going eastbound.

I thought award tickets are issued by the airline whose miles/points are used. Was this an A3 or SQ award?

Sorry for misleading. You are correct, it was A3 award ticket. What I wanted to tell is both flight was SQ flight but TPE-SIN was code share and operated by BR.

Well, BKK-HKG is ~1000mi, whereas SIN-HKG is 1500mi.

But to go back to the case of the NRT-BKK-HKG route, I doubt A3 would say anything if they have space on both flights.

GVA-FRA-LAX and JFK-GVA

I had a very smooth experience (my first time redeeming through A3) back in September 2016 for a flight to be done in November 2016.

Selected the flights I wanted from their website and waited for them to call me back.

GVA-FRA-LAX on LH
and the return leg
JFK-GVA on LX

The LAX-EWR was a paid ticket on UA...

Anyway, all went smoothly, but the taxes... ouch. Total of 487.96 Euros

So much easier than redeeming on SQ (for non SQ flights)....

since SQ can release TPE-SIN-HKG J reward flight, i don't see why TG won't do for F on NRT-BKK-HKG. And expertflyer.com showed first O reward availability too.

@ Jma12

since when does it matter if you fly "backtracking" or "eastbound"???

For the airlines, it depend if you're flying within the MPM (maximum mileage permitted). And the routing BKK-SIN-HKG excedes the MPM, so normally you should not be allowed to get such a ticket for the price BKK-HKG...

Don't blame A3, blame the LH-group that YOU chose to fly with!

Are you doing the rules or A3? What expertflyer is showing does really not matter!

for certain Im not intending to make the rules. We are just talking about the things are supposed to work according to our perception. Also, listing the search result from expertflyer is only for reference purpose. I was not saying that A3 should see the same availability.
I believe this forum is created for discussion and sharing experience. Thats why we are here talking about...

Economy fares valid for award upgrade

I'm looking at flying LHR - ICN - LHR in April this year with OZ and I'm thinking it could be a good use for the 140k miles I've accumulated with Miles & Bonus! For the dates I'm looking at there is award availability in business outbound, but on the return leg the nearest availability is one week away from what I require (based on a couple of calls to Aegean telesales).

Given I can only get award availability one-way (I've looked at more convoluted routings for the return leg and they don't look good) I'll be stuck with paying an expensive one-way cash far for the return. I'm considering buying a return ticket in economy instead and getting a seat upgrade on the outward journey as an award ticket. I asked Aegean telesales about this and they said the award space can be used for seat upgrades.

I wanted to make sure I got an economy ticket that was valid to be upgraded and after a wait I was told Asiana only accept "Y" fare class (full economy) for upgrades. This isn't much good for me - Y class fares are almost the same cost as business on this route! Does anyone have any tips? With wishful thinking, I'd like to believe my telephone agent misunderstood and some other fare classes were valid?

For reference, on this route LHR-ICN a one-way business award is 55000 miles while a one-way business upgrade award is 25000 miles. Taxes from LHR are high - ~£300 for business award on this route (my thinking was a seat upgrade might be slightly better as my understanding is the tax on the paid economy ticket would be offset against what needs to be paid for the upgrade).
