i don't have info specific to this particular flight, but the political/security situation in the region has made this already long route even longer.
the route is now the solid line, instead of the dashed 'shortest route' line:
UA flies longer 772 routes (india), but the only potentially longer route flown by a pmUA 772 (which has different engines) is ORD-HKG (7794mi) and DXB-IAD (which may now be shorter than KWI because of the detour). because the KWI-IAD route is now longer (flightaware has a recent estimation at 7125mi), combined with winter TATL winds, i'm not surprised if either range or crew duty rules are coming into play.
last week, both the inbound KWI and DXB flights made fuel and/or crew stops in BOS.

UA835 ORD-PVG on 1/9 diverting to NRT according to flight status. I'm scheduled to fly UA836 PVG-ORD and it's now delayed by 3 hours.

1/9 UA803 IAD-NRT 772 diverted to CTS for about an hour before heading on to NRT and arriving 1h30m late.
Anyone has any idea why?

10 Jan UA104 GRU-IAH delayed due to operational difficulties for 10 hrs 30 mins. I gather that the inbound a/c was swapped to a B764 instead of a B788, but it arrived on time. The delay must have something to do with crew rest.

UA91 TLV-EWR canceled aircraft maintenance.
UA86 EWR-PVG 6 hour delay then returned to the gate, eventually left again with 7+ hour delay. Aircraft maintenance.
UA925 LHR-IAD also left and came back then got out again with almost 2 hour delay, aircraft maintenance.

we had a few good months on UA, but recently the cancellations and serious delays due to aircraft maintenance are back to the old horrific levels

There's currently a 789 sitting in MEL since 10/01, anyone know what's wrong with the aircraft? As far as I'm aware, UA98 flew in as per normal today.
