Bolding mine.

Yesterday, at LHR when I was told that I would mis-connect at IAD (due to 919), the agent told me that she could not put me on any other carrier except for UA, even though I pointed out to her the NZ as a LHR-LAX non-stop. And it took some pushing from me to keep my seats in C as she said that upgraded seats should be kicked back down to Y in the event of IRROPs. Then again, she also was protesting un-restricting UA5 to put passengers on it from 919.

Yes - this is an unfortunate consequence of poor/uniformed agents - hopefully the agents at NRT will be better and handle it properly (IME they are some of the best - if not THE best - in the system)....

The agents at Narita have always been great. They were waiting for me with hotel voucher and confirmation on first flight out tomorrow to SGN. They switched me from ANA to Vietnam Airlines which leaves 8 hours earlier than the ANA flight. Now I will just need to make sure I get the original routing credited to my account.

I was doing a Mileage Run with a straight turn in Bahrain so I kind of saw this coming when I left IAD on 1/23.

1/23 IAD-KWI left 1 hour late due to MX
1/24 KWI-BAH left 3 hours late due to delayed inbound and same MX issue again
1/24 BAH-KWI left 3 hours late due to delayed inbound
1/25 KWI-IAD Canceled due to pilots timing out because the Crew Desk didn't inform them that the inbound was delayed.

At KWI the agents refused to rebook any passengers on other flights and told them to come back tomorrow at 11PM for the flight back. Fortunately I was able to have someone in USA call UA for me and get rebooked on BA/DL back to USA earlier than the 11PM flight they were proposing.

As of now UA hasn't sent out an apology e-mail.
thanks for this insight. I'm actually doing this MR (minus BAH, just KWI) this weekend and good to know that the agents are useless. I will just keep premier line on speed dial if I need to be re-accommodated. I have a business trip leaving Monday and I can't afford to get delayed by an entire day. I know LH could get me home via FRA if needed, plus there's a BA option as you stated.

I'm in MAN now - it starting snowing pretty heavy (but didn't stick) - so they closed MAN this morning lol. Yes - any snow at all in the UK is like Armageddon..... You should see people try and drive in it!

1/28 UA 862 pulled to the side of the runway to diagnose a problem. Ended up 2 hours on the tarmac. Plane was not returned to gate, instead all passengers were transported by buses back to terminal. Plane needed extensive time for repair, so flight was cancelled. Flight changed to UA 2091 next day.
1/29 UA 2091 is delayed from 1:30 to 3 due to aircraft servicing. Same aircraft from the day prior is still being worked on

Fire Emergency at NRT Gate 35 - UA78 [Jan 30, 2015-flight canceled]

Got to the gate to get on UA78 and was greeted with a cavalcade of emergency vehicles and personnel surrounding the plane, complete w discharged powder and the whole works. No fire, but a definite smell at the gate. Not a good situation.

I got rebooked in E+ on 838 getting on in a few minutes, I hope.

As for what happened - sounds like there was a spark/discharge when the plane was plugged into gate power. Not sure if there was a fire or not, but there was a ton of response and they sprayed the flame powder etc. I have a couple pictures of what I saw at the gate.

There was definite damage as they indicated maintenance was required. They also announced the plane landed with a known safety issue (!!??) and would not go back into service. Kind of surprised they would announce that over the intercom.
