6. Somewhat bizarrely, we were referred to as Mr and Mrs throughout the stay, even though there was nothing in the booking to indicate marital status or gender. You might think they would correct their mistake after seeing us check in but, no. Fortunately my partner saw the funny side of being repeatedly addressed as "madame" for three days...

Just had a couple of nights here and it does have an excellent and spectacular location.
No breakfast for platinums (nor welcome gift for me...perhaps they ran out of tomatoes?) but the 'upgrade' was to the SPG floor (7th floor) which does have much bigger balconies than those rooms below so you should always look to be on the 7th floor or higher. Our east facing room 756 was renovated and had a gorgeous view to the both the city and the sea. The balcony had a table and chairs and two sunloungers which you could use for sunbathing until 11.30am when the sun disappears over the roofline, after which you can use the rooftop pool area (at a fee, I believe).
In addition, the hotel is right outside one of the stops for the airport bus (4 Euros single per adult) that goes every 20 minutes at peak times. Couldn't be easier.
We enjoyed our stay a great deal and the staff were mostly fantastic. Just a few very minor things to be be aware of:
1. The exterior of the hotel is appalling, located above a McDonald's and a ghastly casino. You would never guess how nice the property is on the inside from the outside,
2. The buffet breakfast is fantastic (as it should be for 22 Euro/£22/$30) but the hotel is popular with a certain type of guest for whom affluence goes hand in hand with appalling manners. Take a tip from the some of the European women and just barge on in, nobody needs to wait for anyone at this place it seems.

Thanks for a great report!
Was your newspaper issue related either to choice of paper or weekend stays? I've always found a free weekday paper (of their choosing) to be standard, sometimes I get charged for my choice (but usually not).

Good question. We were there Monday morning and Tuesday morning so getting papers shouldn't have been an issue. I would have settle for USA Today to be honest. The front desk said they used to get lots of papers in but that now they had to send the bellboys out to buy the papers from a newsagent and that this was only available on request. On the first day the front desk was very helpful and proactive in getting what I wanted, on the second day there was much shrugging followed by a flat refusal.
Incidentally, here is the balcony on our 7th floor room and, on the rooftop, Madame

yo have two choices. there's LM's official beach, which is private (though shared with couple other hotels). For that you have to pay EUR17 per day (if memory serves), which includes chairs and umbrella. you can also go to the public beach right next to it, but there are no chairs/umbrellas there. it is free. beaches in europe are a pain.

Be slightly more specific - are you SPG platinum? What are you looking for?
Go there at least once a year and I have always enjoyed my stay. Sea views great - amazing location and great platinum recognition.
If I had a request it would be for a SPG lounge - but go to the restuarant / pool on the top floor - brilliant views
Find the parking accesibile directly to the hotel via separate lift very handy^
Staying v soon - will post a more detailed report with my next stay

Yes I am platinum.
I am looking for any recent trip reports or comments on the rooms, service, etc., by any one, platinum or otherwise.
Do you get suite upgrades (you mentioned great platinum recognition).
Thanks in advance!

"deluxe sea facing new renovated room"
which I find lovely. Spacious - large bed - 42 inch plasma (moveable) and a great terrace with two sunbeds and a table
Large bathroom and separate lavatory
Breakfast not an amenity but strongly recomemeded in room (if I remember costs 20€)
Plats get usual choice of gifts + last time had canapes in room + mineral water
If you are very lucky you get a junior suite. Main differences are bigger room (at least 50% bigger) and seperate walk in shower in the bathroom. lavatory always separate
Have always found service very decent but I'll get back to you with an up to date trip report very very soon (next week!!)

Not necessarily, of course. I am a Platinum and had no upgrade but got a 7th floor room which has a slightly bigger balcony (I had booked a room with a balcony but a smaller one, apparently) so it was nice enough, overlooking the city and the sea if you stretched around. I did get the canapes and water but only on the first night.

Thanks!
I hear the airport bus stops very close to the hotel. Is it a significant savings over a taxi (two bus tickets vs. one taxi)? If it's only about 10 euro cheaper, it won't be worth it considering how much luggage I have.

IIRC, I paid about EUR 26 for the taxi last year.

Highlights:
The internet connection was super fast so free UMA calls back to the states were a plus.
The a/c could have been quite a bit colder but was tolerable.
the service at the roof top restaurant was abysmal (the view is great though).
The room recently renovated as described by others in this thread.
Overall I would definitely come back if I was staying in Nice again.
On a side note,
I did a segway tour which I highly recommend: http://www.mobilboard.com/
