It can take up to 7 business days from the day you qualified for your Lifetime Platinum status to be picked up by the system.

Starwood / Marriott merger
Q : What will happen to my Lifetime Status when the programs merge together in the future?
A : Rest assured we will always recognize your Lifetime Status, whether it is today in your earned program or in the future with a new, combined program.

I'm always forced to stay at a Hilton or Marriott property for business but almost always stay at Starwood for leisure. I've been Gold for 8 consecutive years via Amex spend, yet I now see I only have 12 stays/20 nights since becoming a member. (5 of my 20 nights where award based in the past 2 months.) It's somewhat disconcerting for me to think back at a number of vacations where I believed booking via Cash + Points cost me about the same as Cash so I chose C+P knowing there was no way for me to achieve Platinum in that year.

Oh well, I'll continue to enjoy my Gold (as my Amex spend allows) and will hold out hope I'll eventually reach Lifetime Gold.

Similar story here. Got lifetime gold email but that doesn't reconcile with my records, which show Platimum for 11 years...SPG says 9 with, as I understand it, 2012 being the 10th. So confusing

I called Starwood Corporate Service team this morning and they are telling me that I have 7 years as Platinum years which according to my records should be 10 years but it appears that Starwood has removed the nights and stays for the "double nights" promotion which effectively adjusted the status if you were short several stays.

For example, in 2002, they offered double stays promotion and if you had 20 stays and undertook, 3 stays, that would have brought you to 26 stays under the double stay promotion which would have given you Platinum status.

However, with the adjustments Starwood made at the beginning of the year with your total stay and night credit (as indicated in your SPG account), this effectively adjusted your Platinum status years which would have brought the 2002 status from Platinum to Gold.

I think this is ridiculous for Starwood to do this as the offer for double stay was at their discretion and as members, we supported their initiative/promotion and then they remove this from the system.

I also would like Starwood to enhance their system to provide a better tracking mechaism on their SPG website for every member showing lifetime stays/nights/Platinum or Gold years as members so there is no confusion.

This would ease the calls that Starwood Corporate Service team would be getting from its members curious to know how long it would take for them to reach Lifetime Platinum.

Lurkers, can we get clarification on this?

There were quite a few promos in previous years that would allowed someone to gain Plat status without hitting a full 25 nights/50 stays. I guess even people doing the Plat challenge would also be affected.

Here's the wording for the Lifetime Plat :
Enjoy Platinum membership status for life when you achieve 500 eligible nights total and any 10 years of Platinum SPG status since joining the program.
Many of us met the conditions to gain Plat status that SPG published for any particular year. It seems ridiculous to retroactively say that those years didn't count.

I just called Platinum Desk, she was surprised there is now a line in my record that shows how many years Platinum and how many years left to obtain lifetime...my wife and I are showing nine years with one year to go...so cool.

My question to our illustrious Lurkers is, does this years 2012 status earned last year count or is it already counted in the nine years.

I always like to come to the SPG thread because it is mostly good news and real enhancements...quite the opposite of seeing how Delta is devaluing their best customers on a daily basis.

SPG is truly a win/win relationship...I appreciate their loyalty and they earn ours in return...THANK YOU

It doesn’t get any better than this. Enjoy Platinum membership status for life when you achieve 500 eligible nights total and any 10 years of Platinum SPG status since joining the program. Yes, it’s quite an accomplishment — and one that deserves to be recognized for life.

Wanted to check my progress -- called Plat. concierge. I was told 8 years as I had a gap of a gold year in 2003. Was told 10 years should be consecutive. I said not according to spg.com. Concierge was adamant. an extra year not a big deal but question of principle. What do I do now?

Was told today that I am Lifetime Gold.

Need 57 more nights and 4-5 years as Platinum to get Lifetime PLT.

I don't think the PLT years need to be consecutive.

Correct, the Lurkers have said that so long as members have 5 or 10 years of Gold or Plat. status, and the required qualifying total nights, they'll achieve the Gold or Plat. lifetime status.

I received a call today from an SPG rep. confirming my Lifetime Plat. I very much appreciated this outreach. Obviously a lot of attention went into this program. I recall that in a few of the years I re-qualified for Plat for the next calendar year, I did so via a double night/stay promotion. IIRC, though, I've been SPG Plat since the program started in 1998.

I'm confused as to my years of platinum qualification since I actually have the physical platinum SPG cards from 2002 - 2012 but was told that I only qualified as Platinum for 7 years. I don't agree with the explanation below...but here is Starwood's position:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It was nice chatting with you earlier today on the Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) Platinum Chat Line. I welcome this opportunity to address your questions and concerns.

We have reviewed your stays as they were counted towards the new Gold and Platinum Lifetime account status. You achieved the Platinum level for the following years: 2003, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011. During 2001, 2002, 2004 and 2006 your stays earned you the Gold level.

The current “lifetime nights” represent only eligible nights consumed under the SPG Program from 1999 forward.

The above years were reviewed using the new SPG program policy. Under this new policy, “lifetime nights” were changed from every night to eligible nights such as:
Only nights on Starpoint eligible rate plans will be counted. No third party booking service, wholesale tour agencies, etc. rates are allowed.
· Award nights were not eligible before October 1, 2011. The only award nights that will count towards “lifetime nights” are those earned after October 1, 2011.
· Nights earned under past “double night” promotions do not count towards “lifetime night” totals as they were night credits and not actual nights “stayed”. This might explain why, even though you enjoyed the Platinum level during most years, when the stays and nights were counted towards the new Lifetime Gold and Platinum status, some of the nights were not eligible and were not counted.

As of today, you only need 67 more nights and three more years as a Platinum member to achieve the prestigious Lifetime Platinum status.

If you have any questions or need additional assistance, please feel free to click here to chat with us online or click here to have us call you. If you prefer, simply reply to this email. I would be delighted to personally assist you.

Thumbs up Starwood Shakes Rattles and Rolls the Hotel Loyalty Program world once again

This morning after a week away on the road
I received a call from a thoughtful agent in the SPG call center
who saw my name on the list and rushed to give me a call out of order on her call list.
I wish I hadn’t been tipped off by an insider in advance of her kind call to spoil the fun and diminish the surprise of it all.Still it was a very emotional moment to hear it
It felt like I was finally getting married after a decade plus of dating/courtship.
I was to be one of those walking down the "Platinum Lifetime" aisle next month lol
As thrilled as I am to have achieved that honor I’m not sure I agree with a small number of the new SPG program changes. Nor does my opinion in the end really matter.

None the less today is a reason not to look at what may be wrong still in places with SPG/Starwood
but to celebrate and bask in the light of a program and hotel company that changed my life and probably more than a few others. In a variety of aspects.
The way I look at loyalty, design my residence even the way I conduct business around the world.
A salute to our online Lurkers old and new and the folks inside the call centers and hotels that typically care about their customers beyond the course of doing business day to day together.

My congratulations/kudos to all those at Starwood/SPG for bringing the magic and excitement back to its program.SPG Starwood has listened, respected, and responded
finally to the voice of the majority of their customers.
I applaud all those at Starwood who made this happen and you know who you are

A salute to our long time friends at Starwood
A toast to the future it’s looking mighty SPG elite level bright
Welcome back to the ballgame SPG Nice to have you back where you belong ^

Cheers & Gratitude
A soon to be "Lifetime Platinum SPG Member":-::-::-::-:

Who Knew? loyalty could have its truest reward of all

Perhaps SPG may be "Freddies Program of the Year" again in time?

Does anyone know the years that were Double stays OR nights?

I am "short" two years I was told.. (both for 1 stay!) (over 600+ room nights) and one year they claim i had NO stays. Seems stays over seas are missing-- I also do not recall not being Plat since 2000.

How about nights earned for having the Amex SPG card? I see that status from having the Amex cards will count towards the "years of status" total, but will nights earned pre-Oct 1 2011 for having the card count as well, or like award nights, count only after that date?

Yes to AMEX card nights as far as helping to attain Platinum, but not as a factor in adding to the number of nights needed for Lifetime status. No to award stays pre-October 1, 2011.

William - can the AMEX nights/stays not counting toward lifetime status be added to the FAQs? Will save other from having to scroll through pages of comments.

Thanks!

If your Platinum status for 2012 was earned in 2011, then it would be counted as 2011 and not 2012.

I do not have your account details but most likely, it is already included in the nine years.
