I'd be interested in hearing more about stays at this property if anyone has been there???

While I usually love Marriott hotels and would love to try the JW Marriott Las Vegas,

I would recommend the following for Vegas:

- Weekdays: Stay at a 4*+ Casino, which offer great rates Sunday through Thursday.. you can get net rates of $90 or less at the Bally's, Hard Rock Hotel, Luxor, or even Stratosphere Tower for under $50.

- Weekends: Casinos double and triple their prices, so it's indeed wise to stay at one of the non-casino chain hotels at a weekend rates.. Amerisuite opposite Hard Rock often has a $59 rate, while Marriotts might be slightly more... Personally I might spend a weekend night at Primm Valley (half price than Vegas) or go for a 2-3* casino for still way under $60 per night...

Hope to go back to Vegas in August, and look forward to feedback on new casinos!

I've stayed at both of them numerous times. I prefer the Hughes Ctr, by a hair. Why, b/c there are more things to do in the immediate area, its closer to a nicer part of the strip, the breakfast and happy hour are a bit better. Again I prefer this by a hair and the CC is a good property too. Both have indoor parking if you want. the parking at the CC is at the Marriott Suites but you can park there if you want. If you are going to be at the CC then I would choose that location as you can walk. Also since the rooms are pretty much the same, I usually pick a low floor at the Hughes center to avoid the elevator hassle.

I was hoping to try the JW Marriott resort north of Las Vegas with the family in August, but the rates are quite high. Traditionally this is a time for low rates in the area, and in fact many of the top casino properties are available for less than half what the Marriott is asking. I've called the property directly and they didn't even offer all the rates listed on Marriott.com. Now I've just noticed that the Hyatt (similar property east of the city) is offering a killer deal of buy 2 nights, get one free, plus 50% off second room for kids, with the third night of that free as well. This is even available for club level rooms.

Two questions:
1) For those of you who have stayed at both (mauld maybe?), comparison comments would be much appreciated. (I haven't stayed at a Hyatt for years after a bad experience, and have no status with them.) Would you pay more than twice as much for the JW?
2) Anyone aware of any special offers for the JW, such as the Alaska Airlines $99 promotion that has now ended? I noted the Category 6 Summer Pointsaver, but this still seems a little high for a desert property in the summer.

I would HIGHLY recommend staying at the JW. It is one of the most beautiful Marriotts I have ever stayed at, but I can't say I've ever stayed at the Hyatt in Vegas to compare, but I like this propery more than Bellagio.

Thanks baccarat0809. Nice to hear from another almost-local FT'er on this subject. I had seen those rates, but know this hotel is often available much lower. This is a time of year when Bellagio itself is only $159 (or less with an offer), and others like the MGM Grand are available in the $60 - $80 range. I appreciate the recommendation though - I had basically resolved to stay there until I stumbled across the Hyatt offer. We usually stay at Paris, but want some time off the Strip on this visit.

I just returned from JW Marriott in Las Vegas. It is a beautiful hotel. I had just returned from a tour in Afghanistan and I was planning on book the "Active Military and Family Special" Rate of $127/night. However, I waited a day and when I tried to book it again, a government rate of $79/night appeared! Next to the JW in Kuala Lumpar, this is one of the best Marriott deals. I am not sure if it was an upgrade but I had a patio room (MR Gold). The rain shower was really a nice touch. My only complaint is that my stay was too short, one night.

Just though I should mention that the casino, while small, is also very nice, modern, and relatively smoke-free. If the majority of playrs on a table agree, it can be designated a smoke-free table.

The table limits are also lower than the Strip. A lot of locals play there.

It has been noted elsewhere that Mariott does not manage the casino in Summerlin.

Just got back from the JW Marriott Las Vegas. It is certainly the equal of any Marriott resort property I've ever stayed at, and we are frequent visitors to the ones in Palm Desert and Scottsdale.

The property is spacious and well-maintained, and in an excellent location in LV if The Strip is not your only focus. The mountain scenery surrounding it is spectacular - especially with the show put on by last week's lightning storms. The normal rooms are large and well-furnished. Robes and upscale bathroom ammenities are provided. For those who have not experienced one, the rainfall showers were a big hit with the family. There are several dining options on and very near the property, and the Marriott's food was nothing short of excellent while surprisingly reasonably priced. A small casino separates the two towers of the resort and you must pass through it to access the lobby or restaurants. The pool was not as spectacular as some Marriott resorts, but large and well laid-out with a great waterfall spilling into it. The staff were very pleasant throughout the resort.

I wanted to get the more trivial details out of the way before crowing about the best upgrade I have ever had as a lowly Silver member. Having 2 rooms booked last week for a party of five at an excellent rate of $129 including 2 breakfasts per room, we were upgraded to a 2-bedroom suite for the cost of the 2 rooms. The suite took up the entire end of one floor, with a wraparound balcony that afforded views in three directions. There was probably as much square footage - and definitely one more bathroom (3) - than I have in my house. Each bedroom was huge, with separate whirlpool tubs and the aforementioned rainfall showers. The "living room" contained a dining table for six, a wet bar, several sofas and chairs and a 36"+ television. There were also large TV's in each bedroom. The breakfast credit totalled a generous $64 per day - more than enough for 3 adults and 2 children (although we cut it kind of close one day with the Eggs Benedict ).

Trying not to be influenced too much by our treatment this time, we still loved this place. As regular visitors to Las Vegas, we intend to move our non-invited guest business to the JW. They have done an excellent job with this property, and I sincerely hope they can make a go of it here. With the apparent failure of the Aladdin bid, it is great to have a points-earning option other than the disappointing Suites location and the RI/Courtyards located throughout the valley.
