Undisdovered Aman loaded by mistake ? / loaded early by mistake ? (4.5 days later)
i guess i should've made a note of what the rates were (% discount varied)
but that has never happened before, with aman online reservations

Undiscovered Indonesia - dari/nusa 2 night minimum, others 3 night
other indonesia Exclusives match discount offered by Undiscovered
aman loaded in reservations 2nd time before adding link 2nd time >
aman.com/resorts/amankila/undiscovered-indonesia

aman.com/resorts/amanfayun/exclusives/undiscovered-hangzhou
includes half board on weekends and breakfast on weekdays

aman.com/resorts/amanfayun/exclusives/explore-hangzhou
aman.com/resorts/amanfayun/exclusives/winter-indulgence
aman.com/resorts/amanfayun/exclusives/village-ancient-town
aman.com/resorts/amanfayun/exclusives/the-palace-village
aman.com/resorts/amanfayun/exclusives/explore-chinas-unesco-treasures

aman.com/resorts/amantaka/exclusives/discover-luang-prabang
half board, laundry, etc now optional Exclusive (+$50 per person per night)
but standard daily rate still publishes half board and laundry online..
and has $150 per night single occupancy discount (because of that)..

New corporate logo now in place & evident - stationery , T shirts , bags , etcetera; rolling out in phases .
Hmm , looks somewhat like MUJI now , oh well .

Rather sad that distinctive " signature " to individual Amans is lost . These identified them as Amans and yet each unique .
Hope not losing " soul " & becoming like any other high end ' chain '

Amanzoe is going back to 4 pavilion types next year, which is what they had when they first opened and then changed in '14 (if my memory is correct). The current split between 6ft vs 12ft pool is a much fairer pricing structure. I really feel this is a mistake, as the so-called sea view was almost impossible to see and people complained about it. There was also a good reason that they got rid of it in the first place.

would be nice if they had things like rows, corner, etc
valley view avoids rows (rows with less privacy) though

yes 2014, changes in jan may've been before acquisition closed

they have not loaded the change into web reservations yet
im surprised they are not already sold out more in peak

850 apr oct
1100 may - jun 10 / sep 11-30 (when are some of the school breaks?)
1600 jun 11 - jul 13 / aug 21 - sep 10
1800 jul 14 - aug 20

speaking of whether hotels make money (from hotel) >
dolphinci.com/wp-content/uploads/160630_rns.pdf
Amanzoe hotel Net Operating Income (NOI) doubled in 2015 to €1.2 million, compared to 2014
although guess im not positive whether thats limited to hotel, or residential construction/sales
and they did the additions on the beach

Has anyone any recent stay experience at Amanjiwo? I went there in 2012 and had an enjoyable time. So now, I want to bring my family there. Will be a group of 6 people. Just wondering if they are still maintaining the high standard since the GM has changed ( no longer Mark Swinton ). Thanks in advance.

We were there a week over Easter this year. It was our 2nd visit (first was 15 years ago) and we loved every minute. Had a fantastic guide/driver during the whole stay and his personality and knowledge of everything made our many activities a real highlight but also enjoyed villa, pool and food a lot. Nothing to worry about at all. PM for details.

We stayed in December for 4 nights and had a wonderful time. Good food and service, great rooms, a fine selection of activities and the GM, Ian White, has been with Aman for at least 600 years, so you'll be in good hands. It's one of my favourite Aman's - I would definitely return.

Never been to Amanjiwo, but met with Ian and heard plenty of feedback from guests there - basically, THIS; echoing the above.

What is keeping you from going , chinmoylad ??

Missed Ian W when he was at Fayun .
Jiwo is quite something . AZ , picks all the superb locations , along with wonderful GMs ( of old , not so sure these days ) .

Any Aman where with these ' 600 ' years GMs ( thanks MacMyDay ) are , one ' s stay will be just " out of this world "

Do we have any more news on Aman Shanghai yet, other than what's been previously announced? Any clue on what "2017" means in terms of opening, and if Aman is usually on-time with their openings?

Planning a September stay in Shanghai, and wondering if it'll be open in time.

departures had article re developer conserving trees/houses

cant compare openings to how aman handled prior to 2014
presumably hoping shanghai 2017, kyoto 2018, by end of year
tokyo seems they wanted to have open before the end of 2014
(n)era i think was owner (dolphin) wanting open over christmas

only dayan opened quietly (in early 2015) like aman prior to 2014

though sveti did soft open in stages (archaeology and or finances)

QUOTE=FlyerEC;27261928])

.. Welcoming GMs ( and HMs / teams ) are one of the hallmarks of Amans . Should happen right from your first communication / correspondence with an Aman . Glad you did get to chat a fair bit / daily with Sandra W & Mark S .
Sadly , we bid Sandra farewell . Welcome back an Aman " veteran " to Kila ..
[/QUOTE ]

The departure of seasoned Aman GMs continues seemingly unabated .

But for Sandra , as with Tracy , I do applaud them for putting the interest of their young families first .
Been missing Tracy since but glad Sandra moved over from Puri .

Welcome back to Ernst L , next Kila GM

As Kage says , we cannot & probably shouldn't compare how things were done before .
Amanjunkies of old may then , very likely , be sorely disappointed .
But the loyal local staff may still retain some semblance of what it " should be "
