What is the fascination with Amanpulo?

It seems to be one of the best reviewed Amans (minus the food) in the world. Yet for me, a beach resort (fullscale or boutique) in Philippines means Boracay. Anything else other than Boracay seems a waste of time.

This is the problem I have with Amanpulo. It is not located in a good place.

If Boracay is supposed to be touristy, or backpackerish, why could you not stay at the high-end and reclusive Shangri-La Boracay Resort, for example? You won't see many working class people there, that's for sure.

Most other Amans seems to be located in prime locations within the countries they are built (apart from Amankila), but Amanpulo just seems pointless to me.

Unless you're a huge Amanjunkie, why would you even know the place existed?
This is just a silly post. Just go there. You'll get it.

1999 - revenue $50MM / edit $15MM / debt = ? / 10 properties (minus 3)
2000 - revenue $61MM / ebit $30MM / debt = ? / 11 properties (minus 3)

vs

14.80% reliance - i see JV and loan but no more equity?
14.98% ITC - isnt this the scary thing? they are a major long time starwood partner
I think Reliance has just acquired some of the family interests.

At that time there were only Amanpuri, Amandari, Hotel Bora Bora, Le Melezin, Amanusa, Amankila, Amanwana, Amanpulo, Carcosa Seri Negara, and Milton Park.

I joined Aman two years later, 1998, and immediately set off on the first of many site inspections of the properties. My first company wide meeting included a General Managers and salespersons meeting, there were just 3 regional sales gals back then...I rejoined Amanresorts nearly seven years ago to focus on Amankora...what I experienced on the first of my 8 trips will be with me forever.

at Amanpulo/Amanyara/Amanpuri, they politely ask "How many chairs/umbrellas would you like" Where? If possible, could you tell us approximately what time?" The chairs appear, with iced water and a little snack tray 2 hours before the appointed time

I don't know about anybody else but I am quite staggered at the level of those bids. I guess it's the world of the rich and famous.

What do you like the most about your job?

The flexibility and openness of Amanresorts. We have a lot of freedom at the property level. We are able to run the resort the way you would run a home, keeping it in impeccable shape so as to impress friends and guests and allowing me to be proud of my achievements.

...

Your advice to the young talents of our industry?

Some people will surely disagree, but I truly believe you should only do what you like. That doesn’t mean you can do whatever you want – but more in the sense that only if you enjoy what you do, will you do it well. If you bring passion to your job, your staff will follow and your guests will notice!

Beautiful, exclusive resort in an amazing location. We often felt like we were the only guests! Very happy with the service: it was not always perfect but they were super eager to please and did everything in their power to make us happy. Food was excellent. Wine is very expensive, but the resort has a good cellar. Spa is fabulous and access to steam/sauna/spa pool/cold plunge is open to all guests.

Our table was beautifully set up inside or outside dependent on our wishes and the meals very good and enjoyable.

villa at Amanpuri, the Aman Resort in Phuket. “The villa comes with your own personal chef who prepares anything you want—I love the fresh red curries, and also the original French Kaiseki dishes (French and Japanese techniques) with fresh-caught fish,” [Celebrity chef Todd English] says. “It’s the ultimate room service experience!”

Well, if any of you hear them in the pool/beach bales, just think that they are there to gobble up the mosquitoes

All around fireflies buzzed on and off. In the distance, the gamelan music played with the occasional gecko chirp. Absolute magic.

Also preferred the food at Amandari to Amankila. We had Suite #2 at Dari, view of the valley, and I would watch the mist rising in the evening, the sunlight growing over the canopy of the trees in the morning. When I couldn't sleep, I would open the sliding glass doors, step outside, and listen to the sounds of the jungles.
