... and it was perhaps the best redemption value in the program: 12k points per night for a magnificent oceanside room in the separate Regency Club building.

Cancun still has the Hyatt Regency which I recently posted about. Posts about the Caribe property (no longer Hyatt) are still contained in this thread.

I know it is time consuming, the mods did an excellent job with seperating the Manila property thread which also had a defunct property in it, which makes it confusing to read. Hoping the same can be done with this thread.

I was at the HR CUN 12/28 - 31.

The property overall is fantastic.

The newly restored beach is great and there are several levels of beach seating including covered "beds" on the hotel level and palapas on the beach level. Food and drink service extends to the palapas and beach chairs with a good bar menu.

The location of the hotel is great for swimming in the ocean because rock jetty creates a sheltered alcove of calm water while just a hundred feet or so down the beach you get full-on waves if you prefer a more active experience.

As a number of people have mentioned, The Grill is excellent for lunch or dinner. There are not many other on-property dining options.

The Diamond amenity, as has been mentioned, was four apples .

I would put the RC on the lower half of US clubs for offerings, and well below the typical international club. Breakfast was limited to pastries, some fruit, and cold cuts. Evening snacks were more cold cuts and some limited cold items.

Noise was not a particular issue. The hotel is a central atrium design and very lound noises in the atrium will resonate up. But I never found it too noisy at night. As others have said, the all-tile design does mean that scraping chairs in the room next door can be heard, but none of my neighbors scraped chairs beyond typical hours.

1/28-1/30 Stay

Just returned from a great stay. I would describe the trip as "seemless".

A group of 5 guys in my office headed down to fish and relax. As we arrived, we were greeted and escorted to the 14th floor Regency Club. John was inviting, and gave us a run down of everything. He let us know that 1 of our suites was ready but the other was being cleaned (2:30 PM at time of check-in). We were in rooms 1220 and 1222. Each had spectacular views down the beach. Rooms were clean and updated. 1222 had 2 balconies as 1220 had 1. 1220 also had a larger shower and sectional couch. The location of the hotels is second to none for a quick trip. We did not have to use a taxi the entire trip. We ate lunch once and dinner once at the grill. Food was excellent and very reasonable. Drinks at the pool were 2 for 1 in the afternoon and very inexpensive. For entertainment, night life is right down the street. We went to Coco Bongo on Saturday night arranged by John in the RC. He recommended a table with bottle service. It was very cheap ($165) for call brands and cover for 4 of us. We bypassed the line and were greeted and seated. As far as the regency club, it is a free perk. We had our share of complementary cocktails and evening snacks. There are no warm items in the club but were offered the buffet downstairs for a discounted rate of $8 a person. The buffet was great and included mimosas. It did get fairly busy in the evening so I would suggest getting there around 5 if you would like a table. For a "low priced Hyatt resort" I challenge anyone to find a better one in NA. The beach is great, service is fantastic, pool is beautiful, rooms are fairly nice, and location is second to none. For $100-$200 a night, IMO it cannot be beat.

Excellent choice except the beach erosion part

Just checked out after a 2 night stay at the Hyatt Regency Cancun before heading over to a timeshare we are staying at for the next few nights. I upgraded to the Regency Suite with my Diamond Suite Upgrade from 2010. I must say the view from the room was absolutely amazing! 12th floor, looking straight down the beach of Cancun. There was even a sign on the wall of the balcony that said Best View, and clearly it was.

Pros: The view from my room (1222). Service was very very good, especially in the Regency Club. At check in, we were whisked up to the Club for a personal check in. Not really needed, but a nice touch. We took advantage of the get double the dollars and paid $150 for a $300 food and beverage (including alcohol) credit. Really a good deal. Free drinks/hors doeuvers at the Clubcontinental breakfast was average for a Club breakfast, but service was really attentive. Free alcohol from 5-7, but you really cant take it from your room.

More Pros: hotel is easy to get around, and small and not crowded even during Spring Break. College kids were next door and two doors down, including a stage and crowds, but we could not hear and were not bothered at all. Pool is great. Food and beverage in the Grill restaurant was reasonable for a resort; food at the pool was average to below for the price. After bringing my partners veal to the table medium rare instead of medium well, they very quickly replaced it and gave the table a free desert as an apology. They clearly made the best of a bad situation; bravo.

Cons: the beach is very separated from the water. Due to erosion to the new beach, the beach itself is about 8 feet higher than the water level and waves. This was disappointing. You really cant enjoy the beach very much. Transportation from the airport, arranged through the hotel, was about 20 minutes late. Our flight was early, granted, however it is very intimidating waiting in the front of the airport with all of the drivers trying to get your business. With an 11 year old, this was really problematic. Once he found us, the driver was pleasant, however.

Overall, great hotel, and highly recommended unless the beach is of utmost importance to you. Room 1222 is absolutely fabulous!

I am planning on trip to cancun around late august with my newborn baby.
I am also considering Maui too, I know maui is much more expensive but not that much difference during late august.
it will be about 8 days, and I am going to pay for 4 nights, and use rest of them for points. I know I have to spend more points at maui for sure.
Can anyone tell me the major difference between maui and cancun?
and which location is more ideal for family vacation?

In my opinion, no comparison. Maui, hands down. While people may compare and debate the amenities, anyone who has been to both around that time of year will have to agree: While it may be uncomfortably humid on Maui, it's blistering hot or raining in Cancun then. You'd either pray for rain, or be cooped up all day, and then when you go out at night, the only things happening are the nightclubs -- and they are open to the street and powerful. Maui may be more expensive in points and the cost of meals etc., but I don't think you'd like Cancun at that time.

Maui.

(Except..... If there's a juicy promotion at that time, the $$ price at the Cancun property will be - usually is - rock bottom.)

Given that is moving into the height of hurricane season in the Gulf of Mexico, you'll be lucky if it is just raining in Cancun in August.

Anyone have any good resturaunts in the area? Maybe an upscale Italian or Mexican place for my honeymooon on May 30th? We are vegetarian so a steak house wouldn't work.

Hyatt Regency Cancun, highly recommended!

Hi folks,

Having a great time at the Hyatt Regency Cancun. I used two Diamond Suite Upgrade Awards for 10 nights at a Regency Suite (room 1220) Here's a picture of the awesome beach view and video of my Regency Suite:

Highly recommended and great value!

Moderator:This thread would be much better without the obsolete references to the Caribe and poor service which do not apply at all to the current staff at the Hyatt Regency Cancun. @:-) How about splitting the thread?

I'm also happy to share a high recommendation for the Hyatt Cancun. The "Hyatt doubles your credit" promotion has been extended a third time and now will extend through the end of 2011. My wife and I very much enjoyed watching the sunset each evening in the RC the first week of June 2011 with John and Jose providing most excellent service. For breakfast however we enjoyed the full breakfast buffet downstairs in "O":

2 Desy Regency Com 220.00
2 Cappuccino 0.00
2 Mimosa 0.00

Total $220.00 pesos, or $19.47 USD. Half price via the "Hyatt doubles your credit" pre-purchased meals credit and that became about five bucks each for the breakfast supplement over the free RC buffet (excluding tips). With unlimited everything, including an omelet station, lattes, cappuccinos, espressos, smoothies, champagne, etc., well, it was great!

When the hotel converts to all-inclusive will it still seem like such a deal? Will the quality suffer? Who knows... but it's great right now!
