Thank you!

EDIT: Okay did my own research (forgive the rookie poster) - currently the AF website shows the new biz class on the HND flights and the old on NRT directs. Should I be confident for a trip in December it will remain that way? Anyone with experience on that?
It's as I posted although there are some better prices in J now from HND than when I originally posted.

I don't think the NEV seats are too bad for sleeping. I find BEST hurts my back after a few hours.

In my experience of this route the seats advertised now are always what they deliver but that's not a guarantee because I don't know what happens on days I'm not traveling ;-)

I think we can close this thread. I have done some research and it looks as if all B777-200ER are now with BEST seats, and that all B777-300ER are now in their final state (with P/BEST, NEV4, COI).

Which then makes it fairly simple to identify whether your flight has BEST or not:
  • If the flight is on a B772, then it has BEST
  • If the flight is on a B789, then it has BEST
  • If the flight is on a B77W and has P, then it has BEST
  • All other longhaul planes have NEV4

Which begs the question where they stand on the A330s, and whether a new thread should be opened. Anyone has info on the A330 conversion programme? Some BEST A330 already flying?

Indeed this is all correct and this thread is becoming hard to maintain with the constant change of equipment for one route/flight.
I suggest to de-stick this thread. @moderators : what's your opinion ?

No BEST J seat for the A332
the last news are here. I don't think any retrofit has started yet.

Although I did identify at least one frame that spent a full month on the ground in CDG, so in the "garage". In normal times this is just a C check, but in times of cabin refurbishments this is typically also the time when new seats are put on board the planes.

Quite shocking actually to have an airline that has pledged to refurbish its planes not to have a single plane currently undergoing refurbishment.

Given the pace AF actually retrofit their planes (as opposed to KL for instance...) I wouldn't be surprised that an A330 had spent a month in C check without being refurbished.

It makes a lot of sense.
Maybe just a summary sticky detailing AF fleet and the various versions. This would be of general interest to all AF flyers. Also mention that AF has a tradition of introducing and removing BEST on many routes.

FWIW, I flew AMS-SFO recently on the KLM 787.

Pretty nice seats, though the cushions are contoured in such a way that it doesn't feel completely flat.

Here's hoping the AF flights between SFO and CDG all get BEST all the time, since KLM is doing it.

But AF may fly more flights per day or week than KLM does to SFO.

I also agree that this thread can be removed from sticky (and perhaps closed) as the title and most of the discussions are related to the BEST deployment schedule. What I suggest is the following:

1- Removing the current thread from sticky and renaming it to BEST routes/seat discussions only
2- Create a sticky master AF Longhaul thread indicating which airplanes have which version of seats.

So it seems that the COI 77Ws are getting BEST by 2019 (which in real terms means by the 2024 Olympics )

Moreover, as of the end of 2019, the company plans to install a new cabin with new seats on the Boeing 777-14J serving the Caribbean and Indian Ocean network.

so slow...
So they have already retrofitted 19 B77W and no they announce the COI fleet. As per the wiki there are 12 COI planes, so this will be 31 out of 43. So there is still the unknown case of the remaining 12 are those in NEV4 config "loisirs". Some of the concerned planes are very recent (and were delivered with NEV4 seats while BEST was being deployed on older birds)...

And if I read correctly, for the A330, they start end 2018 ? Or is this the end date I believe it is the former.

According to the article, the A330s will be ready by the end of 2018. Still no words on the A380.

The way I read the official announcement is that the retrofit of A330 will start end-2018 and retrofit of 777 COI will start end-2019. I think that the text, both in French and English, is quite clear. And if there is doubt, it seems obvious that the less optimistic interpretation is in order.

That being said, all AF formal or informal announcements have to be taken with a big pinch of doubt.
For the A330, they first announced 2016, then they officially announced that it would use Zodiac seats and start in 2017:
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/air-f...nd-2017-a.html

Then an informal announcement blogger stated that A330 will get Equinox seat with a retrofit starting end-2018 and additional 77W COI starting 2019:
http://thetravelersclub.boardingarea...r-dair-france/

This new formal announcement more or less confirms that blog.
It should be stressed that AF use a different wording for A330 ad B77W. The A330 retrofit is clearly in process, meaning that seats have been selected and probably ordered. But the 77W COI is still in planning stage ("prevoit"). So there is plenty of time for changes.

AF got a new CEO and a big cash inflow, so investment planning might be easier.

Sorry if I'm not understanding this correctly (I'm a DL thread reader, who is booking an award flight on AF with DL points) - Are there no more modifications for the 777s being made until 2019? I'm looking at flying SFO - CDG - TNR all on AF in J and the only award availablity is on the 777-300 ER (with 2-3-2 layout in J), but am hoping they will install the new seats by the time I take my trip in July 2018.
