Passport Agency Appointments (same day expedited service)
Appointments for same-day expedited service often go quickly. It is best that you schedule your appointment with the passport agency exactly 14 days before your trip. You will want to call the passport number before the center opens at 8am EST as they will have just opened up one day (14 days out) of appointments at all agencies. Appointment times start at 8am. It is important that you have enough buffer in your travel schedule. For example, if you make an appointment for a new passport at 11am and your time of travel is at 2pm, there will not be enough time for you to get your passport. If you book the 8am slot you may have to wait until the end of the business day to get your new passport or it may only be a few hours.
You will want to have your date of travel, time of travel, your flight itinerary number, name of destination, full name of applicant, and applicant's birth city, and the zip code of where you live (to help them find the closest available center with open slots). Use the following steps to increase your chances of success to booking an appointment as they can go very quickly:

Known office locator numbers (not complete)
Note: The office code (first two digits of your application locator number returned by Passport Status) is the office reviewing your documents and approving your application. It isn't necessarily the address you mailed the forms to (always Irving or Philadelphia for renewals) nor the facility where the book is physically printed and mailed (often Tucson or Hot Springs).

If you have a locator not in the above list, check the return address agency name or postmark/ZIP on your returned citizenship docs, or passport card if you applied for one, which may be the processing office, although the address itself is likely to be a PO Box in Sterling, VA in all cases (which appears to be a lockbox location that processes mail for all locations). The passport books are printed in fewer locations, often Hot Springs and Tucson, and may not correspond to the agency where the processing steps occurred. If it doesnt match the list above, please add or correct.

- At 7:55 am call the passport number 877-487-2778 (This have to be exactly 14 days before your plane ticket or less. If less, it will get harder to find an appointment)
- Click 1 (For English)
- Click 2 (New Passport)
- Continue to Click 7 to repeat, and keep doing this while watching your watch or using Time.gov to get the exact time down to the second.
- When your it hits exactly 8:00 am Click 2 (for traveling within 14 days option)
- There will be a delay of 3-4 second and you will wait for the next available agent. If you are very lucky, you will be put straight through to an agent. You may be waiting few minutes or maybe as long as 15-20 minutes.
- If you did not click 1 exactly at 8 am, you may have to wait for more than an hour and half

2/23: prepared renewal application for card and book online
2/24: sent via USPS priority mail to Irving, TX
2/27: USPS indicates delivered
3/03: Application 'In Process'
3/03: Check cashed
Update:
3/11: called and talked to a rep around 10 pm ET. Upgraded to expedited service ($60 charge). Was told my application was being processed in NH and with expedited service it could be processed in 20 business days.. Asked for a travel date multiple times but I don't have one. They seem to indicate that they could try to accommodate any upcoming travel. Declined to upgrade to faster mailing once issued.
3/12: 12 AM received email that application was received and I selected regular service . . . noted 10-12 weeks.
3/12: Status checker changed later that day to note expedited service and 4-6 weeks.
3/13: woke up to email from a little after midnight with tracking info. I should receive by 3/20. Status checker says same.

Congrats
That's awesome. I'm hoping my email today saying processing really means approved. It's been processing since Feb 25th expedited

I received an hour ago the approval email.
This is my timeline, unfortunately perhaps not very useful to anyone anymore, due to my mistake on the passport photo size.
12/30: Applied for a renewal for a 5 year old, at the US Post office, not expedited.
1/5: Request received according to online tracker.
2/9: "Processing" email received.
3/2: Received letter dated February 11th and mailed February 22nd about the incorrect size of the passport picture.
3/3: Sent correctly sized picture via regular mail to the Houston Agency at an address in Sterling, VA.
3/18: "Approval" email received.

I mailed my passport renewal from NYC to PA for expedited delivery. Mailed on 2/25 USPS priority mail. Was supposed to be received on March 2, but it's been saying "delayed in transit" ever since. I filed a case with USPS but no response yet. As of today, 3/16, No status on the website and no checks cashed.
Does USPS sometimes not scan it in in? Is it lost?

I received two emails late Friday night. The first was received around 9 pm MDT saying my application was approved and my passport was being made. A couple of hours later a second email informed me that it had shipped that day and that I should receive by 3/27.
Odd timing. I don’t think there’s really a crew slaving away in the “passport factory” through a Friday night.

Still waiting
I contacted my Senator Michael Bennett here in Colorado. They just called me 10 min ago. Super nice people. I sent mine expedited and it's been processing since Feb 25th. They told me the passport agency is really good about processing it right away when they contact them. I told them we leave in 1 week. Was told I should be fine. I'll let ya all know.

Question for everyone here: I have two US passports, one passport that expired in 2019 that had a 10 year validity, and another that expires in July that was issued by the State Department (frequent traveler) in 2017 for four years.
I can't get a conclusive answer as to which passport I submit for the renewal on the DS-82. Calling in doesn't get me a clear answer. I was first told that I need to submit my limited validity passport, and then was told on the same call at the end that it's the expired passport.

Issued date is March 16th.
It is the old model passport book, maybe because I requested the larger booklet.

Applied for kids and adults renewals on 3/4
Kids were sent by the post office and we mailed ours the same day.
Our passports renewals were delivered in Philly on Sunday 3/7 at 4:20 PM.
Kids showed up and are Processing on Tuesday with a received date of 3/15
Our's are nowhere to be found.
All I need is for them to scan and show them as received.
Anyone else renewing in Philly have this issue. The passport applications went from Charlotte, NC to PA

The Philly office received our's on 3/7 and its still NOT showing up on their site as Processing. No ETA and no idea how long it'd take. They haven't cashed the checks either.

Renewal sent in for expedited processing, mailed overnight 3/16 to Philly which per the post office really meant two days. Delivered 3/18, shows received and processing in system as of 3/19. Now to see how long it actually takes to renew.
