If you don't want to go out to eat, iTunes is also an option through ThanksAgain. I just had 1 mile post for 1 iTune.
9/19/2010 09/21/10 THANKS AGAIN MILEAGE AWARD 1
Although it says 9/19 was the transaction date, the actual iTunes purchase was about a week ago.

gil123, you are perfectly right with your statement. I wish I would not have started this s****. Indeed, it costs hours and hours and hours of my time. Further, it costs sometimes more than it gets.
In the end, I guess, it will cost me around 1000+ $ in order to generate 100k miles. Still cheaper than buying them for around 1500+$ but not worth the whole effort.
Well, still I am already in the middle of nowhere, I must go to the end.
To those of you who did not yet start: Think twice about it @:-)

If you haven't started and are on the fence, just start slowly and stick with the free/very cheap hits first. I'm going very close to ascending cost order, that way at any point I can stop without worrying that I've already invested $100s of dollars. Cheap hotels and decent rental car rates will still be available in late October/November for you to climb the tiers. Right now I've done 9 hits (4 posted), earning 10,500 miles (8,000 bonus + 2,500 non) for an outlay of $18. Well worth it considering that's over 40% of the way to a domestic RT flight. I know I'll get to 12 hits, but I may stop there.

If I stay one night at the Hyatt, then another night at the Marriott and a third night at SF Westin, I will earn 3 HITS, correct?

No, it never even showed up as pending.
I'm thinking it's time to start looking at some of the really low cost Super 8's here in the US. I saw one of the Super 8's that is taking part in their 50% off sale was down to about $27 all in or so but that's the best I have found.

Sharebuilder
Didn't see the lightening fast post of the Share builder miles that others saw, despite having made my trade last week, and finally called them yesterday. They claimed to have no record of my having signed up for the account through the promo although I went straight from the US air website. I had to look up the promo code for them and after about 25 minutes on the phone they agreed to give me the points. Posted today.

Wow, justed logged into US Airways account and got the Sharebuilder miles, despite the fact that I haven't yet made a trade. I opened the account over the weekend, deposited $6 and just had the money available in my account this morning. Didn't even make a trade yet...
Should I withdraw the $6 now...

Last year a very generous FT member put together a spreadsheet to help people track their progress. I updated it with this year's information and made a few other tweaks that I thought were useful. I've uploaded it to Google Docs and put a link below for anyone else who wants to use it. Please PM any comments or issues to me and I will try to fix as quickly as possible.
