HELP...Please

This Saturday, the 27th, I am scheduled to fly to SFO from SEA. And return on Monday the 29th. The person who I am visiting had a severe accident and is in the ICU, thus it is not approprate for me to visit him, who is a family member. United said there was nothing they could do for me when I called. Please, please help with any ways to change my ticket to a later date. Note that the $100 dollar itn. change fee is only $39 less than the price of the ticket. Please let me know if there is anything you have expirenced that is close to what I am dealing with.

Call, call, and call again, be very nice, and you should have luck. Also, try going to the Issaquah ticket office (it's still open for a little bit longer). Remember, just don't have them make any marks in your PNR.

Let us know if you find an agent that will waive the change fee now that they are more closely monitored.

You may (or may not) have more luck in getting the change fee waived in the future, just canceling now and holding off making new rez.

did you book it through a travel agent?

If you did, we can contact our United Sales rep and they will give us a waiver on the change fee...

.... if you booked it online, then you are at the mercy of United....

(btw, I've been able to get waivers on almost everything lately, depending on the occurance, and have had to show proof sometimes..)

I did indeed book it on UAL.com, which means I will suffer the wrath of united. I've called three times, two of the times no luck, one of the times the rep. put me on hold, which I assume means he was talking to a supervisor, but came back with the same info. I'm going to go into the local ticket office this morning.

Thanks for all of your help.

I would say immediately ask to actually speak to a supervisor. You would probably be better off if there is actually a ticket you can book at the same exact time. I am really sorry for your friend and hope you are able to visit him...

Thanks for all your help. I went to the local UA ticket office (Issaquah) and I was able to have the wonderful lady waive the $100 fee, if I could produce a note from the person I am going to see that is in the ICU. So what will end up happening is that I will have $139(Full price of ticket) to apply to another flight anywhere. I was very impressed.

Thanks again,
Kevan

Squeakr: I'm curious. Please post links to back up your accusations, rather than baldly sullying the good names of fellow FTers.

Kevin,

Just a reason why United NEEDS to keep their CTOs open. Here in Vegas, they have been able to do things that Res won't or refuses to do.

*sigh*

I'm not squeakr, but I play him/her on TV. I *think* he/she may be referring to this potential feather-ruffler:

A lively discussion for sure, the thread seems to have died quite nicely.

No unfair sullying implied or meant - only pointed sullying...sorry I did not have time to grab the link before Willy beat me to it...
