Thanks for all your help. I went to the local UA ticket office (Issaquah) and I was able to have the wonderful lady waive the $100 fee, if I could produce a note from the person I am going to see that is in the ICU. So what will end up happening is that I will have $139(Full price of ticket) to apply to another flight anywhere. I was very impressed.
