Error in June "Hemispheres?"
I was reading the June "Hemispheres" and the "Terminal Bliss" article on my beloved Newark Int'l Airport.
And I think I spotted an error in the section called "Getting Grounded." It was written:
"When the new airport railroad station opens this fall..."
Unless I have been dreaming, I think the EWR Train station is open!!! and as the article says "Launches passengers on journeys to many points: Newark, New York, even Philadelphia."
Otherwise it's a well done article and makes me proud to fly that airport.
Could I be wrong??? Is there a newer train station coming?

There is an additional "error" in hemispheres. UA speaks highly of its new flight information monitors at the gate and if you read the type on the monitor, it asks for volunteers to take a later flight. Maybe that is a way to tell people that their flights are full?

When I read the story I figured it was written last year and didn't get published until this year, but it's an obvious error.

Hey, Catman, what is the best way (public transportation) to get from Midtown to JFK?

Punki, you have a few options to get from JFK to Midtown which are listed at:
http://www.panynj.com/aviation/jgtsfram.htm
I tend to use the New York Airport Express bus
http://www.nyairportservice.com
The ride takes you to Grand Central and Penn Stations and the Port Authority bus terminal for $13 one way. (I normally take it to Port Authority and get the West side Subways there)
But be warned: the ride can take one hour or more during rush hour.
If you don't mind the subway there are several options listed at the link above. If I have time I take the Free yellow, white and blue Long-Term Parking Lot Bus to Howard Beach Station. Connect to "A" subway train.
To JFK from Manhattan, use "A" train to "Far Rockaway."
Subway: (718) 330-1234
This takes on average half hour to 45 minutes.

I am planning to make use of them when I fly to JFK on June 18. It seems like a pretty decent deal to me, especially considering that my destination that evening (the W Court) is only a few blocks away.

More on Manhattan-JFK transportation: The taxi fare FROM JFK to Manhattan is $35 fixed (no meter), plus tolls and tip. This fixed fare does NOT apply going TO JFK. In that case, the meter runs, and the fare can easily be $10 higher.
Personally, when paying the bill myself, I take the subway to JFK if I have the time.

My new regime:
Try to go to Newark - the AirTrain is really, really a good solution (not as good during the morning rush)...
If you have to go to JFK, take a car service. It's between $35-$45 (+tolls/tip). Not worth the hassle waiting for cabs, etc. And, if required, you can usually also get one at the last minute when you arrive at JFK and the cab line is an hour long...
I usually use Tel-Aviv: 212-777-7777 - I find them to be quite reliable and friendly.
The A train, imho, is about the dumbest airport-transit thing I've ever experienced. I'll never do that again.

I booked Tel Aviv last trip to NYC.
The "limo" turned out to be a dirty red mini van that was 30 minutes late, driven by a maniac whose sole conversation all the way to the Waldorf was how his tip was going to be settled. Guess the end to THAT story.
Carmel are the same company IMO - their phone is similarly catchy ... 212 - 66 -6666, and their car did not arrive at all.

Cordelli... that's what i was thinking as well. Maybe the article was supposed to come out in September or OCtober but then we know what happened.
A little final editing maybe before publishing might have helped. Or a little note at the top "this article was to come out last Fall but becuase of circumstances we were unable to publish."
Just a thought. But again, good article and I foudn out something new: the museum of EWR in terminal B.

Someone from the company who publishes "Hemispheres" wrote me back today... saying, and I quote... "You are right, thank you."
Don't know if they'll publish an "oops, we made a mistake" note in a future issue.
No big deal. It's nice they responded.
