Maker's and Coke... Maker's and Pepsi... It's all good.
|
YUK!! When I heard the news, I hoped that maybe it was April Fools a couple of days early. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gifI guess it's water on all flights now! Water and nuts in C just doesn't seem to go together as well as it does with Coke!

This is one of the most fun threads I have read in a long time.
As a Pepsi sommennier, you NEVER mix it with anything. It ruins the pure sweet taste of it. In defense of TOSD (The other soft drink) it is good for upset stomaches. And it does go better with RUM. OMNI for Shareholder: I also really like Joni, a great singer and performer. Her songs tell a story (and consider she is as popular today as she was in the 70's.) SHe also loves cats, and I believe has a few in her home. I'd love to see some of these "child girl singers" have the career longevity as Joni. As for Celine and SHanaia... mature singers... don't think so. Again, LOVE this thread! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif |

And did you see the aurora borealis on the left side? I was in Business class. Some members of the crew were very pleasant and I am not surprised that those FAs were nice to you. Because of the pleasant crew members, the flight had a great start. Coat instantly taken. 1K meal choice taken -extremely- politely. But then came the drinks service... Some FAs were unusually UNpleasant. Guess which type was designated to serve my aisle. Refusal to answer direct questions or to provide requisite assistance. Refusal to do cabin sweeps for water needs. Refusal to clear empty bottles and glasses. No attempt to collect headsets before landing. General "I can't be bothered and you're in my way" demeanor. |

Fortunately, we were able to take advantage of the same winds eastbound that were such a problem for us westbound. The weather in Alaska and Russia was bad, and we had to fly south in order to stay within range of the ETOPS alternates. This resulted in a flight time of 14:31 (uggh), and a very bumby ride for the last 2 hours of the flight. The only thing we had to worry about eastbound was the volcano that erupted in Siberia - it was nice to be about 40 minutes early, and relatively smooth. I hope your next flight is better. --Mark Rogers |

I don't want to threaten to change airlines over this, and have to come crawling back, but this is huge. I won't drink the crap and will complain to UA and Coca-Cola. Given by many of the posts on this thread, they probably realized that is was a great way to save money because no one would want to drink it. I should at the very least replace it with the most expensive thing United serves. Does anyone know what that is (I know in First, it'll be all alcohol - what costs the most?) what should be in coach? Why not offer both in First? The article someone posted doesn't mention which are the 5 airlines that serve Coke, does anyone know what they are? EDITs: Continuing to rant because I can't calm down about this. So what are the rules about bringing your own can of Coke on board?
Does this violate a security guideline? Are you going to spend more time at the random check if they detect the can in your bag? Will they make you drink from it? AAARRRRGGGGHHHHH I HATE THIS!!!!!! |
Robb- (from a Reuters story):
Northwest Airlines Corp. (NasdaqNM:NWAC - news) and America West Holdings Corp. (NYSE:AWA - news) serve Pepsi, while Delta Air Lines Inc. (NYSE DAL - news), Continental Airlines Inc. (NYSE:CAL - news), Southwest Airlines Co. (NYSE:LUV - news), and Alaska Air Group Inc. (NYSE:ALK - news) all serve Coke. [This message has been edited by tom911 (edited 03-25-2002).] |
So, now that United doesn't offer food or beverage, my recent post that I wouldn't fly Southwest again was way too premature.

How well does Delta serve the West Coast? |
I'll assume this is all "tongue in cheek". I can't even fathom someone changing airlines because of the soda they serve.
|
Why? I'm not sure yet, but I will seriously consider it.
I don't want to be stuck for hours in a metal tube with nothing to eat or drink, and my onboard comfort is absolutely a point of comparison between airlines. I really am upset over this, and I don't seem to be calming down all that much. I guess I've never grown up. I don't drink coffee or tea, and juices are way too sweet (like Pepsi!) to be enjoyable. I drink Coke all the time and lots of it. In the course of a normal 2 hour flight, I'll probably drink 2 or 3 cans of it, and this really will make a difference for me. I make a point wherever I am to ask for "Coca-Cola," not "Coke," as I find I get warned of Pepsi far more often by being explicit and I won't drink it. I love the food at Mamacita's in Chicago, but they don't have Coke, and they don't have a license to sell liquor, so I never eat there, just get it delivery from time to time when I'm in town. United also needs to consider as they target International flyers so heavily, that despite a minority with a preference for Pepsi (predominantly in the northern United States), the vast majority of the world is Coke country. It's why Coke gives up the SuperBowl sponsorship to further invest in the World Cup which a lot more of the world cares about, so why does United choose to cater to the preferences of the rust belt? I'm seriously trying to calm down, and sorry if this is comical, but United's tickets cost far too much to fly an airline with no food or beverage. |
Somehow I had a feeling that this was going to be one of the most active topics of the year. I would bet that in the big picture, this will be of no material difference to over 95% of the passengers, and of the remaining 5%, some will be thrilled and the others horrified. I would expect the net revenue effect on pax that won't fly UA again vs. those who will now switch to UA to be insignificant, and if UA saves $ while still serving brown sweet water, good for them.
