Sprite is a Coke Product. Teem/Slice/Sierra Mist is Pepsi's clear lemon-lime soda. Name depends on locale.

AA serves Coke and Pepsi products, having added the Pepsi line a few years ago.

AA recently dropped Dr Pepper and Diet Sprite, causing a multi-page thread on the AA board. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Will UA be serving Dr. Pepper? Many places which sell and serve Pepsi products also serve Dr. Pepper even though (please jump in if this is not correct) Pepsi does not own Dr. Pepper.

If so, perhaps we might be able to look forward to seeing a surprise visit from Garth Brooks in addition to Britney....

This is terrible news. I can't stand Pepsi. Hope they stock up on a lot of water, although Dr. Pepper would be nice, too. Thanks for the link, cblaisd.

Years ago I discovered that if you leave a spoon in a glass of Coke overnight, the spoon turns green. Think what it must be doing to your insides.... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif Haven't drunk a Coke since. But haven't drunk a Pepsi either - anyone know if the same thing happens?

This cola swap thing has kept me tossing and turning all night because, as a student of marketing techniques as refined by the airlines I have always wondered how such deals are made or broken.

How do you think this must have played in Atlanta?

United to CocaCola: Guys, you have been our supplier and we love you, but Pepsi made us this great offer and we are considering dropping your stuff systemwide. What do you say?

CocaCola to United: See if we care...

Personally, and all levity aside, the strength of having your products all over the United network is such that I would, if necessary, give it away for free or at least next to nothing. I am also convinced that this decision was made at a level higher than "product cost" and that CocaCola was not given a chance to match it (or undercut it, if that is even still possible). They (CocaCola) would have been nuts to let this one slip away and I don't think they would have let it, given the opportunity.

On the other hand, who is to say that the Fizzheads in ATL are any brainier than those at UAL (who, as we know, couldn't find their powerport in a 777 C-class seat with two hands...)

And I thought it depended on the phase of the moon http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif In places I know serve Pepsi I've gotten into the habit of asking for "whatever version of Sprite you have".

When I want something carbonated and non-alcoholic on the plane I get 7Up. My understanding is 7Up is owned by neither KO nor PEP, but can be bottled by either Coke bottlers OR Pepsi bottlers, whomever owns the contract in that particular region. Dr Pepper is similar. Let's not get into Mr. Pibb, Cheerwine, Dr Thunder...

I'm mildly amused whenever I'm on a 747 or three-class 777 on a domestic route and get Asian 7Up cans.

If you have a lot of gunk on the terminals of your car battery, pouring Coke on the terminals will dissolve the gunk. And people drink this stuff!

Uh, newsreal is loaded into Apollo the night before (usually) and as Monday follows the weekend, it is traditionally loaded Friday around 1800 CST. Monday's newsreal has been up ever since then.....

I guess you'll just have to wait to believe it is put on Skynet. I'm not sure why you think I would waste my time posting erroneous info on this board....

I could see this line of thinking by KO: Go ahead. In 20 years people will still be drinking Coke. But will they still be flying United?

Catman. What's this thing you've got for "mature" Canadian lady singers? Two out of three in your list there... [So what's wrong with Joni Mitchell?] http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Does this mean Fritos or Lay potato chips will replace peanuts and pretzels as the main snack on domestic flights? [Noticed Lays on my last transPac flight as one of the C-class snacks in the "canteen".]

Try that with a plastic spoon.

Or a stainless steel spoon.

Or a ceramic spoon.

Coke has phosphoric acid as one of the ingredients, that's why it stings when you drink it. The acid helps to break down some of the gunk off your tongues' taste buds. Along with the CO2 bubbles, it causes the product to taste sweeter.

The phosphoric acid isn't very good for your teeth, but the damage is minimal unless you like to swirl a mouthful of coke around in your mouth or if you drink truly massive quantities of coke [multiple 2L bottles per day].

When it's in your stomach, the phosphoric acid in coke is nothing compared to the acid you already have in your stomach. Of course, people with ulcer should avoid drinking coke.

I HATE Pepsi!
I think this decision is going to be the reason for my first-ever complaint letter to United!

JS Mar 24, 2002 12:57 pm

I hate Pepsi! I would rather go thirsty than drink that garbage.

For those of you who don't drink colas, or sodas, or anything with caffeine, and still don't grasp the full implications of this announcement:

Your beloved Minute Maid orange juice would be replaced with Tropicana.

Yes, stomach acid is pretty low pH. That's why gastric reflux is so unpleasant.
