Gosh, if this is something that really makes people that upset, then I'd say two things 1) reexamine your priorities in life FAST and 2) get a life! Come on. It's Diet Coke.

You know, it's not like you won't be able to find a Diet Coke once you get off the flight either. I've really never understood the whole "meal outrage" that people display - it's not like this is your first or last meal (and do you really travel for the food?!)

I find it inconceivable that this would cause "air rage." Talk about extreme. . .(roll eyes)!

Actually, it's Diet Dr. Pepper http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

But other than that, very well stated ldsant!

I certainly hope you're not reading this that I am threatening or suggesting that I would display air rage over this. If I learned about this for the first time in the air, I still wouldn't go into an air rage. I'd be really upset, but there's a big difference between venting that frustration here and going off an a flight attendant.

However, it later occured to me that many who are predisposed to air rage are going to be all over Liz and Basenji when they are the first to inform a passnger that they don't have Coke anymore, and I feel sorry for what they'll have to face.

It's not their fault the contract changed, but basenji has already pointed out that pax have gotten really angry at her when she doesn't have Pepsi. There's a lot more people expecting Coke then are expecting Pepsi and they're going to go through some upset pax.

Serve me Coca-Cola or subtract some $ from my ticket. Yes, I can bring it on board myself, but I am old and I do not like change. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif Another bean counter went overboard. United is grabbing for cash and Pepcid.. I mean Pepsi threw some at them. UGH!

I thought this thread was all about cola wars and I see these juicy posts about ch.9 and ATC freqs. between Mark Rogers and Buster CT 1K. Though I'm not a controller, I've got lots of ATC knowledge. Basically, it's one VHF freq. per ATC sector. A Center often has >20 sectors. Some are divided purely by geog., some others both by geog. and altitude. That's why the # of freq. changes as a flight progresses -- even within the same Center or Approach control. As Mark correctly points out, when traffic is light, sectors are "combined", so that one controller may be working 3-5 sectors, each with a different frequency. Because of terrain and where remote transmitters are sited, the controller may want to have the different sectored aircraft stay on the sector ("discrete") freqs. Among the reasons to have different freqs (Buster's question) are these two: avoiding too much radio traffic on the same freq. and; since VHF doesn't skip as much as HF/AM, the same freqs may be used by several centers in a large region, and thus the practice avoids the same freq. use in contiguous areas. Ok, now back to the cola wars!

Looks like the NFL is following UAL's lead:

ATLANTA (Reuters) - Soft drink giant Coca-Cola Co. has lost a key promotional contract with the National Football League to its archrival PepsiCo Inc., beverage industry sources said on Thursday.

Delta Announces Deal With Coca-Cola

Delta, the nation's third-largest carrier, recently announced a new deal with Atlanta-based Coca-Cola Co. to continue serving Coke soft drinks on its flights.

The beverage deal covers SkyTeam members Aeromexico, Air France, Alitalia, CSA Czech Airlines and Korean Air. Air France previously served Pepsi products.

Is the alcohol restriction a revenue thing or is it based on not being able to cut you off when you've had too many?

For a while I was commuting LAX-YVR. A coworker really liked the Canadian beer served at the airport. So on the flights home, he'd order a beer from the bar but have them pour it into a fountain drink cup (complete with plastic lid and straw) so he could disguise it as a Coke on the plane.

On the Coke-Pepsi front, I definitely prefer Coke. However, rather than bother bringing my own, I'll probably just order a beer instead. So I guess I'm rewarding UA for this move by increasing their revenue $3 per coach ticket. Hmmm... perhaps this was United's perverse profit motive...

Far worse... it serves New Coke®. And of course you can't upgrade to the Real Thing™.

My wife flew SFO-ORD-SFO this weekend and had Diet Pepsi.

Oddly enough, the SFO terminal had become a Coke shop.

Pepsi is slowly making its way into the galleies (SP?) aboard UA flights.

I asked the FA's (many who prefer COKE as well) if PEPSI was the soda of the day. They said Coca Cola will continue to be served until the supplies are exausted. One FA said she expected Flyers to bring their own COKE on board.

Coca Cola could make a funny commercial with people bringing the red cans through security and getting searched (NOT mentioning UA by name of course.)

I love PEPSI. I prefer PEPSI. Asked for and GOT PEPSI (Think I was the ONLY one on the plane to be drinking it.)

But personally UA should offer BOTH!

OMNI for Mark Rogers: You have a good topic here on frequencies. Maybe start a new thread in the Travel section so it doesn't "drown" in all this soda! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
