If they offer DEQM, how many of us humble 1P will go for 1K just so we can trample on the Red Carpet, the red symbol of oppression! :D

If there is a DEQM at a reasonable price, I would consider 2 or 3 MRs to EU to get 1K this Nov/Dec. I am already at 50k and I have no incentive to pay for tickets on UA the rest of the year so it will be either award travel or I try to reach 50k on NW :)

While I find the whole red carpet business trivial, I realize I could make 1K thru DEQM with one trip to SIN. Still gonna be pretty hard to pull that trigger, tho.

I'm seriously considering it - DEQM would put me just shy of 150k with currently planned travel. I'd probably have to add another $200 in a MR, but it'd give me 2 extra SWUs. I guess we'll have to see how much it is (if it shows up at all).

Will make it via BIS myself, (doing 35k in next fortnight alone!) but this promo must bring in SERIOUS bucks to UA .. not just the one off FEE, but the paid flights folks then need to complete.

Win-win for them.

My guess - $650, and W and higher only.

What if they did $500 and must be ticketed after date X (like Oct 25 or something?). That would almost make sense if the goal is to increase BIS - doubling EQM on already ticketed itins doesn't do much for UA beyond the reg fee.

I've wondered about that myself.

Which is still substantial income. If they hadn't had that last year, we certainly wouldn't have taken advantage of the promo. Even with the support of already booked travel, we still booked an additional three transcons each that we wouldn't have otherwise. That's around $3,000 they wouldn't have gotten ($500 registration + 3 x ~$350).

Well, it's September 27th and nothing yet . . . I'm thinking if it isn't announced by tomorrow it's not looking real good.

I'm holding off on booking travel to take advantage of this, so I'm hoping there is an announcement soon.

Oh, be patient... ;) The timing of the announcement always varies by a couple of days...

Are you going to play the FT hawk again and be the first to post if it is offered? ;)

Why are you thinking that?

Last year (2006), I received the e-mail on October 2. It began:

Here's a special opportunity for you to earn or retain elite status or even achieve a higher elite level for 2007!

Simply register, pay US$499 and earn double Elite Qualifying Miles/Segments every time you fly a qualifying flight between October 24 and December 16, 2006.
(You had to register by November 24.)

The previous year (2005), the e-mail arrived on October 17. That year, the fee was $200 and the qualifying flights had to be flown between October 25 and December 15. (And that year, you could register as late as December 15.)

In 2003, the e-mail arrived on October 15. I don't have the date handy for 2004, but I'm guessing it was around mid-October as well. (The fee was $150 in 2004 and $100 in 2003 -- I do have that info.)

But I've dug up the old e-mails, and in the past (it's only been offered in the past four years, 2003-2006) it's been announced early to mid-October (mostly mid-October).

Of course, an earlier announcement would be most welcome! Makes planning easier. ;)

I know, I know . . . just getting antsy. I have an Asia trip in late October and I soooo want to time it to correspond with this promotion if it comes out.

I'm really hoping it comes by next week.
