But a shot that is considered technically 1 drink at 80 proof is 1.5 fluid ounces sof if the FA want's to serve you one shot exactly take a 10 ml syringe with markings along and instruct the FA that 4.436 syring fulls are the exact amount to pour to ensure the utmost compliance with the law and not to offend their moral authority.
I really miss the pre August 16, 2006 lack of liquid rules. I would always roll with a bottle of Bailey's in my Ogio backpack with the side pocket that could hold a 750ml perfectly and mix that in with a Venti Starbucks coffee at about a 30 to 70 ratio in the bathroom at ORD.

I thought it was illegal to be hating on people that indulge on the sacred elixir. Like at MSP for example where is is against the rule for a taxi driver not to give someone a ride if they are carrying alcohol. Just because someone hates something like booze is not a reason to hate on people for enjoying it while slightly bending the rules.

Like the alcohol they serve has no water in it? If they serve alcohol that's been watered down with 60% water, why not serve it where it's been watered down with 80% coffee?
OTOH, given how rule-obsessed our society has gotten, you can't really blame the FAs too much.

Back when I took an alcohol education class to be a bartender, it was 1 shot = 5 oz wine = 12 oz beer. The shot size is apparently up for discussion.
I just pour in the mini and mix the drink. Unless I am asked to make it weak, then I use 1/2 a mini. There is a rule against serving more than one drink at a time, as in no doubles, or not serving two beers, etc. Not 2 drinks (coffee and an alcoholic beverage would be fine).

Was she British or Australian? Those buggers seem to measure their shots incessantly and a 'double' really is 2 x 25/30mL 'shots' of alcohol. In any case - dumb FA.
And drummingcraig - don't laugh, I unknowingly bought a pair of those reef sandals last weekend, although mine have a bottle opener in the sole of both. I had to ask what it was (oops).
We're all aware of the 'no doubles' rule, but the 50mL vodka surely doesn't count as a double. I've NEVER had this happen to me flying QF/BA/US/UA/LX/DJ/DL etc! Where do Delta's Mojito's fit into all of this? More alcohol (supposedly) than half a 50mL bottle...

I think what the OP experienced was one of the "teetotler" (sp?) FAs. Every once in a while you'll come accros one that feels drinking is a sin and will act all "shocked" and "worried" when you order that third drink on a 6 hour flight. "You're not driving when you land, are you?"

Doesn't FAA regs empower FAs to make sure they don't serve inebriated pax? If the pax becomes unruly and FAs aren't able to restrain them, if I'm on the plane I'd be more than happy to chip in and help out. Until then keep the minis and mixers coming.
Maybe first class pax list should show preference next to name (selected on MP profile): 0=don't drink, 1=1 drink, 2=keep it coming.

This flight attendant should be fired on the spot for this behavior. This is a greivous insult to the OP and if I were in their shoes I would have given the FA the worst tongue lashing in the history of man. And to boot, you were flying first class. Simply pathetic, there is something wrong when someone such as an FA thinks they can enforce their ideals on your enjoyment of life in this manner. I'm not being sarcastic with this post, and hopefully after a letter to WHQ I see this FA on the streets of Chicago begging for money with a 200ml of Dimitri Vodka just so I can tell them off. I guess the OP found the worst FA at United Airlines.
Sorry to hear about this OP. To make sure this never happens again simply bring your own minis in your toiletry bag, and if necessary, put whiskey or rum in a Listerine bottle.
