A Mini is two drinks!

On my ORD-LAX flight today the FA brought me the mini bottle of vokda and the tonic and made me make my own drinks all though out flight because she insisted that a mini bottle was two full shots and she could not pour the whole mini in a single glass as the mini was two drinks.

Say what!

I mean a full can of soda on Ted is one thing but this is First Class on a 777. :td:

What the heck is UA trying to pull?

UCBeau May 16, 2007 9:32 pm

WOW. That's pretty pathetic IMHO.

flygirl94 May 16, 2007 9:37 pm

Oh lordy- where do they find these people?

cepheid May 16, 2007 9:39 pm

If the mini is 2 oz. then technically it's two shots, but this means FAs can't pour you a double? That's sad and I really see no reason for it.

I don't know why she made you make your own drinks in first class. That's wierd. One mini is actually the equivalent to one and a half shots. The only policy we have is that we are not allowed to serve two alcoholic beverages at the same time; which would consist of two minis. While many fa's do this anyway, it isn't allowed. Personally the reason I allow it is b/c the flight may be very short and/or you still can continue to monitor regardless. However, in first, they usually give you whatever you want unless you act crazy or something....that's wierd... please don't judge UA FA's based on one single experience.

50 milliliters (a mini) is 1.69 ounces.

The only place where that qualifies as a "double" is Lilliput.

BTW, UA has never sought service to LPT since, obviously, E+ would be an unnecessary amenity. :D

Never. I know a few awesome US FA's. ;)

Or Utah...don't get me started on the measured one ounce pours and the side-cars...and memberships...

Just to make sure this post is UA related, I have never had a UA (or OO) flight attendant pour me anything but a full mini-bottle on a flight into or out of SLC and many of the UA folks will give the second bottle to me if I'm in in F. I guess they feel sorry for me having to brew my own beer in this state.

When I first started reading this, I thought you were going to say she was going to charge you two drink chits for the mini in coach.

Okay, silly me for thinking Goldie would be in coach.....bad princess....

Actually I like it when they bring me the minis. I am a high strung princess who likes things exactly MY way. ;)

If she's willing to leave me the mini so I can mix a drink during taxi/takeoff then I have no problem! Saves me from having to violate UA rules, FAA regulations, international treaties, the Will of God and the laws of the universe by mixing one from my own stash during that iterminable period between the pre-departure drink and the first round in the air.

But once we're up, mixology is the duty of the staff!!!

This flight attendant should be fired on the spot for this behavior. This is a greivous insult to the OP and if I were in their shoes I would have given the FA the worst tongue lashing in the history of man. And to boot, you were flying first class. Simply pathetic, there is something wrong when someone such as an FA thinks they can enforce their ideals on your enjoyment of life in this manner. I'm not being sarcastic with this post, and hopefully after a letter to WHQ I see this FA on the streets of Chicago begging for money with a 200ml of Dimitri Vodka just so I can tell them off. I guess the OP found the worst FA at United Airlines.

Sorry to hear about this OP. To make sure this never happens again simply bring your own minis in your toiletry bag, and if necessary, put whiskey or rum in a Listerine bottle.

I guess mixology isn't covered in 'consistency' training for FAs.

God bless my new Nalgene 60 ml bottles! Thanks to FT I invested in some, and no more grumpy me when such silliness ensues. I simply reach into my pocket and violate FAA rules! By the way, they haven't been a problem at security checkpoints, including NRT.

Besides, alcohol will probably be "enhanced" any day now in transpac UA flights.

Or just drink the Listerine. Don't forget to bring your AA card and your sponsor's number. Holy smokes.

While this isn't common practice, there might have been a reason why this fa did what she did. While you are so quick to complain, I wonder if you are as quick to comploment as well.
