My experience is that the FAs are just as likely to give you 2 minis as to say one is 2 :)

Article on the front page of the WSJ today talking about how the low pay etc. is driving down the cache of working for the airlines, at all levels, with all of the predictable results. The example in the article was of baggage handlers in Chicago making $8.75/hr. Wonder why the level of care about whether you get your bags -- or your drinks -- is not the same?? Sad but true.

The only policy we have is that we are not allowed to serve two alcoholic beverages at the same time.

A couple of days ago on a 4hr flight in F, the FA made me choose between coffee and an alcoholic beverage. "Which one do you want first?" "Can't I have both?" "No. There are rules."

Last weekend, when I asked for a Bloody Mary, I got 2 small cans of Bloody Mary Mix (equaling one full standard can) and two (2) minis of Smirnoff. :)

Then again, this wasn't on UA but on AirTran, which is a LCC.

All are against FAA regulations. If I spot this happening, I inform the FA. There are very good reasons for both rules. And even if there weren't good reasons.....

And, "interminable"????

Back when I tended bar in college, we'd call that a single with a nice tail.;) This makes me wonder why the bar in question that I worked is no longer in business.

But back to topic, a mini is definitely not enough for two drinks. :td: to that FA

You feel that's your business? :td:

I think what the OP experienced was one of the "teetotler" (sp?) FAs. Every once in a while you'll come accros one that feels drinking is a sin and will act all "shocked" and "worried" when you order that third drink on a 6 hour flight. "You're not driving when you land, are you?"

Minis haven't been 2 oz in, well, since I was in school.

A shot is, in fact 1 oz, but very few mixed drinks call for just
1 oz of booze. Even in the days when people were smaller
and more temperate, the minimum serving of adult beverage
was 1.5 oz or a "jigger."

Alas, just about everything worth doing is against some silly, invasive rule or another. An unjust law is itself a species of violence. Arrest for its breach is more so.

Well, technically, ice and a pint glass are 'mixers,' no? @:-)

As is taking it upon one's self to "rat out" those who don't follow this "law".

An official "drink" is 1.5 oz of 80 proof liquor, 4 oz of wine, or 12 oz of beer. This FA was clueless, mistrained, evangelical or simply messing with the paying customer. :td:
