Glad I won't take 100 flights this year. I took about 135 total flights last year and got 1K on segments (101) and only 65000K EQMs. A lot of LAS-LAX/SFO-"small CA city" flights for me

2007 will be my 13th year making 1K by segments. Although I am behind the power curve with only 40 segments accrued so far this year, I WILL make it again, although doing so will be significantly more expensive (mostly out of my pocket) in 2007, due to the fare/fuel surcharge increases instituted by UA.

No way could I make 1K by miles, as I reside mid-USA and at most I take one overseas trip a year. Even with two roundtrips to BKK one year some time ago, I only accrued 95K EQMs that year.

I think more and more people (myself included) are going to be attaining 2P, 1P, and 1K on segments alone since the 500 mile rule is going away Unless you're lucky enough to jet off to BKK or LHR every month, segments, in my opinion, are the way to go...I think mileage runs are going to increasingly become SEGMENT runs (especially toward the end of the year)....for example, PDX-SFO-LAX-OAK is running $100.50 ow/ai and if you tack on a $75 ecert, you're talking about $25.50 (around $8.50 per segment)...the mileage on that run won't get you far so yeah, my point is, segments are now the name of the game, at least for some

Anyone else out there as crazy as me?
I just made 1K yesterday on miles, all BIS, but at 62 EQS I will also make it past 100 segments this year. My flights are almost always direct, and it really doesn't feel that crazy!

Last year I flew:
123 BIS segments (79 on UA though)
85,438 BIS miles (51,879 on UA)
(Don't have the EQM/EQS numbers handy - but I know those numbers were a bit higher due to a number of full-fare tickets, but not enough for 1K)
All of it was domestic :-(

This year I'm doing much more international travel, and so far have:
24.5 EQS on UA
55,129 EQM on UA (pre-DEQM)
(Don't have the BIS numbers handy)
This year is much better :-)

Just crossed 102 Segments for the year

I normally can qualify for 1K status based on EQM's no problem, but I usually qualify first based on segments.

Flying out of a Des Moines, IA base, anytime I fly somewhere its usually through a hub so 4 segments per round trip.

I've got 96,000 EQM posted right now (even without the DEQM bonus applied) but just passed the 102 segment mark with my DEN-SNA flight today

Probably wont make it to 200 segments (thank God) but passing the 150 mark with ease for those 2 extra SWU's seems likely. Anybody else with that many segments so far this year? What are the most segments you've done in a year?

Just want to see what others out there feel my pain...seems ludicrous to achieve 1K status on segments at the half way mark of the year

Not at your level, but I have hit 67 segments this year, with another 8 planned for the next two weeks.
I would have more, but I decided to get Gold on AA as well. So I have done about 20 segments on the dAArkside.

Last year I had over 400 flights. This year will be much less but I still passed 100 beginning of April.

I hit on segments in 2007. I've been 1k for seven years running and that was my first time on segments. It was all domestic travel except one *A trip to BDA. I found it a rather brutal way to go.

"Only" at 71 for the year right now, cleared 1K mid June last year on my way to 188 segments. Should make the 150 mark again.

totally agree. I am at 60 right now, with probably 22 more before the end of the year. I have one free R/T ticket that I am going to use to "position" myself for a good segment run, and I have a couple of $150 certificates that I will be using to help out with costs. Hope to knock out about 3 7-8 segment runs to hit 1K by year end.
