Same response
I just got the cookie cutter response as well. It's rather unfortunate as the tone seems very different than previous responses. I'm not a conspiracy theorist but the lack of personal response to the items I brought up as well as ignoring other comments causes me concern.
Hello C5Driver, We’re always glad to hear from 1K members like you. Thanks for writing. I'm sorry you're disappointed with how Regional Upgrades will be earned beginning in 2011. Prior to making any changes to our program, we look at how it will impact all of our members. Today, in order to earn two (2) Regional Upgrades, you first need to be a 1K member and then fly 10,000 flight miles on United in a quarter. In 2011, you will automatically earn two (2) Regional Upgrades as soon as you reach 75,000 EQM or 90 EQS, and will earn two more at every 25,000 EQM or 30 EQS thereafter with unlimited earning potential. In addition, now all EQM/EQS you earn (not just flight miles on United), will count towards earning Regional Upgrades. Thanks for contacting us with your feedback on the Mileage Plus® program. We appreciate receiving customer comments, and regularly pass them along to our marketing department for inspiration. Your ideas and suggestions help us keep the program interesting and valuable. We appreciate you taking the time to contact us. |

I'm beginning to think that only one of two things is possible
a) they really didn't think this through for current 1Ks...they only looked at the upside of offering CR-1s at 75k instead of 100k for new 1Ks and the impact for current 1Ks never even crossed their mind. b) they are doing a horrible job of communicating that for new 1Ks there are new benefits that you start earning at 75K and every 25K after that. And for current 1Ks you now get two CR-1s after every 25k EQM (starting at 25K EQM) instead of after 10K BIS miles per quarter. If B is the case, I think most current 1Ks would think this is actually an improvement, or at best neutral (if you requal for 1K with 100,001 miles, you will get 8 CR-1s). And for UA to botch the communication wouldn't be shocking at all.

I think these changes are on the net slightly positive for me.
The complaint from those members that manage to achieve 1k every year (no matter how they do it) is that the change seems to penalize them, and the email that they sent as a response to our questions doesn't appear to recognize that. (*members that fly 150k or more will receive the same number or more CR1s, but none will be given until the member flies 75k, even if they are already 1k.) This isn't about status vs non-status or 1k vs 1p or whatever. boolean64 and others have described a positive way they could make this change if their goal really is to award members at the 75k threshold. -David |
I understand the concern about 2012 but for 1K's who qualify in 2010, the program change is very favorable. From the UAL web site:
1K members: During 2011, if you are a 1K member based on 2010 activity, you will still be eligible to earn two Regional Upgrades per quarter as you did before. In addition, under the new program changes announced on Nov. 17, you will also receive two more Regional Upgrades when you reach 75,000 EQM/90 EQS and two at every 25,000 EQM/30EQS after that. The quarterly earning process will end on December 31, 2011, and then the new rules will be in effect for 2012. Perhaps the proposed draconian modifications to the program will change again before 2012 but at least for 2011, I think we will have a much better reward program. The real issue to worry about will be upgraded seat availability |

That does make things a little better. Interesting how they slightly modified the announcement. They are not very upfront about things. I suppose if that's the way they are going to treat us, thats how they expect us to treat them. It's all just one big game and it's definately us (the Customers) against them (the Seller). That's a new take on the marketing model you learn in good ole MBA school.

Big change...errr...ahh.."clarification"...what a mess!

At least someone is listening. United PR, if you passed on the message, thank you. 1Kvoice, if you people did this, thank you (but I guess you won't see this post). I wonder if we can get UA to take back the shaft for 2012 (and beyond) as well, or whether that's too much to ask from Jeff & Co. :-/ |
I agree, the decision to keep 2011 benefits is great. if they've changed this much in two days that leaves a year+ to reconsider 2012 benefits.

UNITED PR made the first post to this thread. 760+ posts later, despite the uncertainty and apparent need for clarification found in so many subsequent posts, he/she has not made a single additional post. "Hit and run"....absolutely amazing.
