ALB-ORD tomorrow, return on Friday (less than 100 hours as of this writing). When UDU kicked in, called according to FT advice and was immediately upgraded. Looked at seat map and had my choice of 6 (two more have since been claimed, as of 24 hour window)

Tonight, within 100 hours of return (Friday night, usually full return), waitlisted (A319). Didn't dial up seat map or flight info, but in the past have had reasonable success using e-500s for this flight as a 1P. Surprised I didn't clear as a 1k right away, we'll see what the week brings.

When Cleared: At the Gate - #2 on the list. 4 more stuck on the list when F checked in full. This upgrade request was made when I did confirmed change from a later flight.

Routing: DEN-CLE
Date/Time: 3/22 @ 5:30 PM

When Cleared: FAIL! I was number 1 of 4 on the upgrade list but F checked in full. FWIW I am 1/6 on DEN-CLE routes this year. Tough upgrade!

No luck with UDU so far

When Cleared: did NOT clear

My first post on FT and my first UDU attempt was unsuccessful. It seemed like a lot of kids were in first, making me think that a lot of F-class seats were purchased. A pilot was also sitting next to me in E+, making me think there weren't too many seats available.

I have a flight on Wed morning, DEN-IAD (eventually PWM, but no f-cabin on that flight). So far, my itinerary on .com hasn't shown waitlisted at all. Not looking good for me and UDU.

When Cleared: Did not Clear. Was teased to the podium about 2 available seats but the GA quickly backtracked. Seemed kind of suspicious to me. As a quick aside, do deadheading pilots get higher upgrade priority than elites (or are otherwise directly booked into F)? I had a pair on each of my flights, including this one that didn't clear.
Yes BP code BP1B might trump you. Or the GA's are at fault. I can't belive a GS didn't clear.

Scrap my previous upgrade success. Yesterday was a fiasco. :P

March 22, 2010:

Flight 0004 ORD-BWI, 6 AM: Confirmed upgrade to First.

Woke up at 4 AM, had a missed call from United at 2 AM, and two EasyUpdate Travel alerts. My flight was canceled.

Called in and booked myself on the flight from ORD-IAD at 8:51 AM. They changed this aircraft from an A319 to a B777. Got confirmed upgrade to Business Class. ^

Plane was about to take-off, when the pilot turned it back. Stuck right spoiler. Flight canceled.

Got put on a "make-up" flight 9812 at 2:30 PM from ORD-IAD. Did not get upgraded, and did not get my window seat preference in E+. Oh well.

In all, spent about 14 hours traveling yesterday. Got 9000 miles as compensation. Gotta love United!

Without being too specific, 1K cleared on a leaf-to-hub to SFO earlier this week on an A320.

Couple of 1K's, TWO of them on 1 PNR cleared about 70 hours in advance for a

JAC - DEN flight on Monday morning.

Big whoop, prolly the only two on the flight. They hadn't even put in for the upgrades of course, it was UDU all the way.

They HAD upgrade on the DEN to LAX flight, with 15K miles each and 75$ WOW

FAIL

The flight was sold out in F (and Y) for at least a week ahead though, so I don't think there were any UDUs.

Now, I'm hoping for another on the flight back on Friday. That one looks good too, but I won't find out until tomorrow night.

The 1K data, however, is useful, and with time, we should get a pretty good handle on which routes we have a better or worse shot at successfully upgrading.
While I appluad the folks tracking the data, it will be difficult to be frully reflective of the true situation due to the above mentioned reporting bias. There were 12 ppl ahead of me on the UG list for my flight I reported, yet I'm the only one who reported back. That's 10 more failures left unreported. I think what would be truely useful, albeit difficult to summarize and lengthy to accumulate... would be a Flight by Status by Fare by sucess/fail percent dataset. That would minimize some of the noise created by non-reporting over time. (Or perhaps be subject to the same reporting bias)

Nevertheless, I'll keep on reporting back!

Surprised he cleared on this route! if you're on the A319/A320 this is one of the hardest IAD-non hubs upgrades in my experience. Guess it had more to do with the day of the week and the metal he's on.
