DCA-ORD-DCA

Every month, 3 X a month for the year.

My 'money maker' was IAD - GIG X 3 this past year.

The GIG route will be replaced with ORD - AGA this year, but I can only get as far as CDG on UA metal. Not looking good for 2010.

ORD - CDG X 4

DCA - ORD - DCA again every week. (only 672 miles)

a few more scattered around. Maybe a TPAC or two.

Good God. If it was anybody other than you I would say "I hope that was in C or F"

I am jealous, but I do not envy you. Here is to a safe 2010 of flying for you.

I too fly SFO-MSN frequently. I'm curious about your comment, especially given the vehemence of your opinion on the matter. I try to go via DEN unless I do the SFO-ORD redeye or it is significantly cheaper (i.e., $80+ differential) to go via ORD. What is your reasoning?

Here are my pros and cons of each option; I think via DEN wins out.

Advantages of SFO-MSN via DEN:
* DEN is much, much less delay-prone
* via DEN splits the journey into two nice equal sized chunks.
* DEN-OAK is an available option in case of irregular ops (which I have done countless times); UA no longer flies ORD-OAK to my knowledge.
* DEN is a more pleasant airport for a layover.

Advantages of SFO-MSN via ORD:

* More flights in both directions between MSN and ORD (typically 6-7 per day) than between MSN and DEN (typically 3 per day); this may be helpful in irregular ops.
* VanGalder bus is a viable option ORD-MSN in a worst case scenario. It is a long and boring drive from DEN-MSN.
* Small mileage bonus (1846 SFO-ORD + 500 ORD-MSN =2346 vs. 967 SFO-MSN +826 DEN-MSN = 1793).

Flight 225 - the late night IAD-SFO wins year after year, hands down.

Because there are fewer seats in C. At the start of 2009, fewer that half of the total 3-class 767s + 747s had new C. Now, all of them do. At the start of 2010, zero 3-class 777s will have new C; by the end of 2010, some will have new C. The good news is that the competition, even in *A, will start to upgrade their C cabins (and they will leap frog UA's C cabin). The competition will drive Z fares on UA down.

ORD's delays are exaggerated IME.

To each their own. The RCCs are nicer in ORD. ORD is my favorite airport, world wide. ORD has proven it is willing to maIntain and restore the facilities. DEN is starting to look tired and stale.

Renting a car is the worst case scenario. When I lived in Chicago, I vowed to never fly to MSN again after nearly being stranded there. And I never did; drove to MSN about a half dozen times in the three years I lived there.

553 miles is not a small mileage bonus. It is the difference for those of us in COS between 1K and 1 during DEQM-less years. That said, since I'd never fly ORD/MSN, except perhaps in the winter (though state authorities in IL and WI have a better handle on the snow removal thing than those in CO, which is the primary reason I fly ex-COS and not ex-DEN), the 49 mile bonus is small, and it is possible that UDU will be easier DEN/MSN than SFO/ORD or even SFO/DEN.

I met a guy last year on UA F ORD/MUC who said he flew every week ORD/MUC round trip- all the FA's knew him by name, and the captain had a long talk with him- where is he in this discussion??
