While Golds are eligible for Instant Upgrades at booking, they can not waitlist for them. Only 1Ks/GS,
*Update: I just spoke to a GS rep who said the B fare would only give precedence over PP if there's confirm-able space but when it doesn't clear automatically if someone else applies PP on a lower fare they could clear ahead of Y, B, and M fares. She also quoted rules that indicated you have to call to upgrade a B fare if space opens up until 120 hours ahead of the flight at which point standard upgrade rules take over for the flight and didn't think that someone on a Y, B, M fare would be ahead of someone using PP on a W fare for example. Is this right? |

Do you have to call to be waitlisted if the Instant Upgrade isn't available or are you talking about the "Complimentary Premier Upgrade Requested" status that applies to all CPU-eligible flights? Not sure if a B fare should show "Waitlisted" just like PP waitlisted flights on the actual reservation.

I am looking at these flights using Plus Points with LAX-SFO on waitlist while SFO-FRA is available on PZ. If I decline to be on WL for the first flights during checkout, would that preclude me from being upgraded using my 1K status? Also, I notice that LAX-SFO is on a B fare, would that consider an instant upgrade fare?
Thanks. You should be able to apply both ETC at the purchase page, or if you're having an error an agent should be able to take care of it now. However, I would say the priority is to book while PZ for SFO-FRA is open in whatever configuration you can get your ETC used. LAX-SFO is a short flight anyway, and the chance of clearing is not dramatically changed by the various reservation permutations. |
Done. Both TATL segments are now confirmed, with the LAX-SFO portion remained for CPU to clear. Thanks for assisting!

Were you able to get it on one reservation with the ETCs used? |
Yes we did! The representative was quite helpful and everything is now under one roof.

I have a p.s. transcon that was booked in economy. I applied PlusPoints to waitlist into first and was number 8 on the list.
A cheap option to buy up to R came up, so I did that and re-applied PP after the ticket was reissued in R. I'm now #5 on the first upgrade list. Only 4 seats have been sold in premium economy including mine (according to flight status), and I am behind someone who is also waitlisted for a premium economy seat. I thought that premium economy fares came ahead of all regular economy fares for upgrades? The other weird thing is that there are two people on the upgrade list for premium economy, and the person who is #2 on that list is ahead of me on the first upgrade list, but the person who is #1 on the premium economy list is after me on the first list. |

I wonder if that is incorrect, though. It seems like it explains your situation. |

I think the wisdom when PP was announced was that anyone in PP would rank above GS in Y.
I wonder if that is incorrect, though. It seems like it explains your situation. I think we had some questions about the way it would work at the gate, and I'm not sure that those were ever fully answered. The list has had a ton of issues on P+ flights ever since P+ was introduced, though, so I'm not the least bit surprised by this. |

UA wrote that people in PE will clear to J before people in Y, but prior to the gate it could never have been accurate. GS instruments clear into PN space, which opens before PZ, and therefore someone in Y on a GS instrument was always going to be ahead of a non-GS in PE.

So while this might be another of the issues with the P+ list, I tend to suspect it's actually working correctly. |

Not clear to me that this would be considered purchased PremiumPlus under the priority rules. Granted the fare class is R ( not RN?) but it still wasn't purchased R unless it was a true up-fare.

Want to burn up some PPs, can you use them to upgrade a ticket purchased with miles? As noted status is 1K if that makes a difference. Also am MP CC holder (Club Card).
Thanks in advance. |

Thanks in advance. You can waitlist for a change from economy to F/Business award using miles or see if CPU works https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/unit...ns-issues.html |

I should have been more precise in my language. There was a $200 offer on the reservation to upgrade to PE, but then I checked doing a "flight change" instead, and it was only $100 to change the ticket and have it reissued. So that's what I did.
