If my friends used a Chase co-branded card to book their award flights (Hawaii - SFO), am I allowed to use PlusPoints to waitlist them for upgrades, or does it have to be cash tickets only?

Only award tickets booked with GS miles are eligible for PlusPoints (from the GS's account) upgrades

That will not work either. Non-GS award tickets are not upgradeable with "miles" either.

It is possible to waitlist for a business class award ticket but the miles have to come from the original account.

Waitlisting does not depend upon the status level or payment card.

Priemer Gold and lower will waitlist for I space and higher elites for IN space

Are you talking about a return flight or a connecting flight? Is this a SDC? This gets fairly complicated.

It would be a connecting flight. Yes, a SDC, I'd probably do it at the airport. If too complicated, I wouldn't bother, just trying to get a flight where I can ensure an open seat next to me.

OK, so with an SDC, the official policy is that you would lose the upgrade on both legs if you changed either one. I can't tell you how it's working now, but the last time I was flying, it would allow you to SDC to another PZ-available flight on the app, but it would't let you SDC to anything else without calling. If you call, it's going to be the agent's discretion, pretty much.

If you have already flown an upgraded leg, and you SDC to a flight with no PZ space, I do not expect that the request will carry over; instead, I believe that you'd be charged a second set of PlusPoints if you want to upgrade the second flight. This is consistent with the behavior when trying to extend PlusPoints to cover a domestic flight only after an international flight clears; SOP with GPUs, but not possible with PlusPoints.
