It seems though that it is only referring to Polaris flights. Is it different for Domestic only flights? If the upgrade was only applied to the longer of the two legs because I didn't want to waste the upgrade if only the shorter leg cleared, once the longer leg clears, can we retroactively apply the upgrade to the short leg as well? The flights are BOS-SFO / SFO-SAN.

No, the same is true for domestic flights also.

Would it be easier to then just cancel the upgrade request at say T24 if it looks like only the short flight, in his case SFO-SAN will clear? What are the cancellation restrictions now. I know in the past I have cancelled instruments close in for just this reason without problems but not sure now with PP system if that has changed.

Once any flight has been upgraded, you can't cancel a PlusPoints upgrade request.

The only way to get the PlusPoints back in this scenario is via SDC -- if you change to a new flight before departure, your PlusPoints will be refunded. If you change to a new flight after flying a waitlisted flight that didn't clear, and before flying a short leg that did clear, your points will probably be refunded, but I don't have experience with that, so I can't say for sure.

I applied PlusPoints to a reservation that has a domestic leg and a TATL leg. The TATL flight cleared into Polaris at booking; the domestic leg did not and I'm waitlisted. Am I correct that I can't remove the PlusPoints from the domestic leg? I'm a 1K on a B fare and it's my understanding that the PlusPoints on the domestic leg actually puts me further down the upgrade list than I would be simply as a 1K on that fare. Thanks for any information you can provide.

Unfortunately, that's correct on both counts.

Going forward, it seems the best strategy in that situation is to apply the +P upgrade request to only the TATL or TPAC segment.

Definitely a lesson learned!

I'm running into lots of inconsistencies with PlusPoints, although largely in my favor. My last three international segments have had the points refunded at flight time even though the upgrade is confirmed. (I'd be ecstatic about this if it weren't for the fact that they refund as points expiring in 5 days.) There seems to be some conflict between the PlusPoints upgrades vs. some other upgrade list that an agent can use, I've also had the PlusPoints website workflow request points that don't show on the website but that the phone agent can see as waitlisted; it's all very confusing.

Looks like PlusPoints are being refunded for some folks after they get upgraded at the gate. I have my theory as to exactly when it happens, but I think we should keep quiet :)

Ahead of time. I'm used to inconsistencies when a reservation is modified by an agent (presumably manual assignment to PZ); I don't think that's been the case here.

When doing a same day multi-city Mexico-US search its showing 40points. If I call it will only cost 20 points, yes?

Showing 40 points how? If the computer is combining them together, you’ll see waitlist options for each segment, but only the highest value should actually be deducted. However, it wouldn’t terribly surprise me if the multi-city search confused it.

Are you backtracking at all, or transiting the same point twice? How long between flights?

I was looking at a multi-city QRO-IAH-DEN then DEN-PIT. When using the PlusPoints search on the website, it quoted me 40 points in total. I decided just to book it and try to upgrade after I booked and it worked fine, only took 20 points.

More IT issues. Had a friend traveling yesterday. He has no status and I offered to try my almost expired points to see where he'd land. #3/2 open. He said don't worry so I try to remove the points. Wouldn't work. Called in and agent confirmed they were removed. Looked at my app shows nothing requested. He was never removed from the list. Didn't get upgraded, but found it odd.

200 points expiring tomorrow.

2 pax just booked an S fare on an international flight. Should be 160 points. This error is showing up.

I'd call and ask them to process this request f:pr you. It should not take much time for them to do it. ...But keep in mind that if the points expire on the 31st the flights have to be departing on or before then too.
