I'd call and ask them to process this request f:pr you. It should not take much time for them to do it. ...But keep in mind that if the points expire on the 31st the flights have to be departing on or before then too.
Yeah unfortunately I don't know my friend's parents' birth dates, and the agent won't do it without that  |
I tried applying points today and the website said my payment method expired.

PlusPoints can only be used for flights departing on or before their expiration date. Did your flight qualify?
It looks like I had the message wrong, it says payment verification is incorrect. Happens when I try to confirm. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...d940757c78.png |
Sorry, didn't go through all posts and this will be the first and last time I will aplly one of these upgrades. I had a problem finding award tickets, reasonably priced award tickets ( not 300k on AA or 180k on UA from NRT to LAX ) so I had to grab an HA award to HNL. Now I fly out of HNL to PHX via LAX. I applied my last 20 PlusPoints. They already upgraded LAX-PHX but the leg out of HNL is on standby. Will they try to charge me more PlusPoints if that upgrade ever comes through? Or will it not go through because the other leg is already upgraded? Seriously, I don't expect HNL-LAX to clear anyway, but I am confused.

I think this is an improvement. What would have been 2 RPU for Platinum became a GPU, which I successfully used in my first attempt on a transatlantic flight into DEN. The upgrade cleared after I boarded the flight but who cares? Got lucky with the first attempt!
Now back to buying K & L fares and not venture into the lottery of upgrade clearing. |

No, it's 20 points for the whole thing, but you also don't get anything back if HNL-LAX doesn't clear. The "extra" would be a modified version of the inverse scenario: you only want to spend any points at all if HNL-LAX clears, so you start out listing HNL-LAX only. The will then charge you separately to "add" LAX-PHX since you didn't take the "risk" of only LAX-PHX clearing.

As far as I'm concerned, the best part about PlusPoints is that they can be used on K and L fares. Thus, I hope many fewer people will be paying more to get on the waitlist only to travel in Y anyway.

They don't lose the points unless they clear... So how would this burn the PP faster?

Itinerary cancellation
In the PP Ts&Cs the following is stated:
"In the case of a partial refund or itinerary cancellation, PlusPoints will be returned to the account from which they were redeemed. PlusPoints upgrade requests that have been upgraded on any flight within the request cannot be cancelled or changed." What does the second sentence mean? Does it mean that if a flight is upgraded and I cancel the reservation the PlusPoints are nonrefundable? This seems counterintuitive... Thanks. |

Note that "Skip the Waitlist" upgrades are nonrefundable. Any voluntary change to a Skip the Waitlist request and the points are forfeit. |

The best return on investment is to use it as GPU rather than RPU.;) |
