It's the same seat frame with new upholstery and seat cover. One of the delay chokepoints for the NEXT project was the seating supply chain so UA opted to rebuild the existing seats on most 737-900ERs rather than drag the project out even further.

What's the replacement plan for the 777HDs? something like 20 of these in the fleet that have to be getting up there in cycles given how they're utilized.

Thanks for the update on N66848.
UA Flight Status doesn't show that N37474 has NEXT.

Does UA's flight status page (for example, N37474 operating IAH-DEN 10 Apr) show NEXT configuration somewhere? I never noticed anything.

These "squared off" F seats have really gotten around ... they can't possibly still be the Koito frames, are they? Hopefully the GTE Airfone seatback openings are finally all filled in... :-)

If I remember correctly from back in the day, the more "rounded" F seats on the 737s were borrowed/acquired/etc from Alaska. They were disappointing because they were the first "dark" 737 F seats when the rest of the fleet had DirecTV then.... but it was a quick response to the Koito scandal.

Someone with a better memory than me I'm sure has all the details, but I'm mildly shocked these seat frames are still going to be with us for a while longer ...

Click on amenities. Clue: if an Airbus or non 739ER, then if power is in all rows, its complete. If a 737 and ViaSat wifi is posted, most likely has NEXT.
Below means it has NEXT:
Free personal device entertainment is offered. Seatback entertainment is available on this aircraft, featuring hundreds of movies, TV shows, games, music and more.

Thanks! From the few I spot-checked in the 739 fleet, they don't update reliably there. Or maybe it's that those are the ones getting the compromised NEXT update.

The Koito F seats on most of the 737-800s and straight 737-900s have to be replaced, and those airplanes will get the latest all-new F seat with wireless charging pad. Koito seats have already been pulled off the 737-700s for the first-generation "new" F seat, and I understand eventually will be refurbished when they go in for NEXT.

Most or all of the 737-900ERs have a B/E Aerospace seat and those are being refurbished during the NEXT mod.

The ex-Alaska seats were a temporary solution during a supply chain disruption amid the Koito scandal, but were replaced with UA seats within a few months and none remain in service.

The ViaSat conversion seems to be a separate process from NEXT. I've flown a number of NGs with Viasat which haven't yet been in for the NEXT conversion.

Didn't NEXT start before the current FC seat was selected? I think that was an improvement to NEXT that was implemented after the NEXT upgrades had already been ongoing for a while.

Thank you! I knew someone better than me would have all the details.

It’s pretty amazing that the Koitos are still with us after all that…. Thankfully, not for much longer.

I’m just glad we don’t have the pmUA F seats from the 757 fleet. There was some kind of a metal bar right down the spine of the back that I found *supremely* uncomfortable. The rest of the seat was fine but that metal bar I found like a torture device.

Thanks again.

Hi All,

Just had an equipment change for a RT ORD PHX in October. Swapped out 321 for 739. It looks like there is no longer a 321 available on both of my days of travel. I have seen some chatter here about 321 engine issues. Is this just a one off equipment change or could it be part of something bigger? Just curious. Thanks!

Future United A321neo first flight:
"Aviation Flights" shows Airbus MSN 11901 took its first flight yesterday BFM-MOB-BFM under test registration F-WZMD. FlightAware does not show the flight yet under F-WZMD. This is the first A321neo for United out of Airbus' Mobile, AL plant. "Aviation Flights" shows 11901 will be N24513, but other sites including the United Fleet Site say N14509. "Aviation Flights" was wrong about N14511, too.

The flight is now under FlightAware: https://www.flightaware.com/live/flight/FWZMD
AviationFlights: https://aviation.flights/aib/A320/11901
